Absense seems to make the heart grow fonder with Mulgrew. People seem to forget before he got injured he couldn't complete a 5 yard pass. The last * he probably completed a pass to was Hooper in 2013!

He is MUCH better at centre mid then he is at full back where he can dictate the pace of a game. Proven in the Scotland/Ireland game at Parkhead better than any other.

Folk are writing him off because Bitton kicked on last season, no way to treat someone that has done so well for Celtic over a number of years now.

I reckon he'll do us a turn in the qualifiers and spot a pass..

No a square one on the edge of the box..

Can still provide cover for left back and left midfield as well. It's the good thing about him, you can trust him in a lot of different positions.

Players like Chico are invaluable to a squad.

He's a much better centre half than he is a midfielder though, as well.

For me. Too slow and ponderous for the midfield IMO.

Dunno what it is but I just don't rate mulgrew at all. Cany take to him whatsoever.
Him stokes and commons and derk are the 4 players I want out our club.

What do you mean you can't take to him? Have you only recently starting watching Celtic or do you have amnesia?

Commons, Stokes and Mulgrew have three of our best players in recent seasons.

Stokes is the only one that may be on his way out as he's not a loan striker and there are better options on the Wing/inside forward, but if he's happy to be a squad player then we should keep him too.

Feel he may want to move on tho.

I know what he means, though.

Players can be good servants to us but it doesn't mean you have to join the bandwagon and love them.

There's a few like that for me as well. Commons is one of them, actually. Good player but I'm not overly daft on him. Purely because he is not my style of footballer. Good at what he does though and I wouldn't want rid of him.

King Kenny and Henrik. Proud to have seen them both play.
I used to love Mulgrew and rated him highly. A calm and cultured, versatile and dependable left footer who could ping a pass and hit a wicked free kick now and again. I remember at the beginning of last season, I couldn't believe the abuse he got on here from various folks after Legia and Maribor etc.

I started to watch him closely though and the amount of times he'd give the ball away cheaply was just dumbfounding. It then transpired that he'd been carrying an injury for sometime and I assumed this was limiting his movement and was likely the root of his bad form.

And so, Chico disappears to get an operation, Nir Biton takes his midfield place, the team clicks and away we went on a treble charge!

I would love to be proved wrong and have Charlie go on to recapture the form that made him a centre half POTY winner but after Jason Denayer and VVD, he has some BIG boots to fill.

Come on Chucky. Prove me wrong, big man.

Mulgrew has been excellent though he's been injured and is back now. He provides good cover and may even play another important season at CB when we lose Virgil.

If you had just started watching Celtic then I get it, but Charlie has been a consistent performer and he deserves some patience til he gets back up to speed after a long lay off.

Seems we save our harshest criticism for our homegrown players. Charlie will have a big part to play this season. No substitute for experience.

Don't understand how anycunt can't take to Commons as a player or as a Tim.

Creative goalscoring midfielder, taken the club to heart. Him and his family are a credit to us.

I like him as a guy, never said I didn't.

I wouldn't class him as one of my favourite players at the club though as most would, I imagine.

Wasn't just aimed at you mate, I've heard a few * like that with him and I just don't get it.

Think when he goes he's goimg to be one of my favourite ever Celts.

I doubt I'll see a midfielder again in our lifetime whose capable of breaking the 30 goal barrier for us. Who was the last before him?

I dunno like, think we will.

After Commons' 2nd season I'd never have imagined him to go on and score 32 -odd goals a season or so after. Never know what can happen. Everything went right for him that year, scored all sorts of goals.

He's a good player, I'm not arguing against that, you can't.

Possibly. Anyone know who was the last before Commons to do it?

Still a good option to have, however nowhere near "first name on the team sheet" like the title suggests.....granted this thread was created a while back. Thank * for Bitton because Mulgrew as our starting DM/DLP wasn't sustainable.
