This might have been mentioned before but I actually think this signing will be dependent on the outcome of tomorrow nights games.

Think we should push the boat out and sign him!

Particularly as he was identified by Lenny a while back, has been on the radar for a while and has continued to improve by the looks of things. And also due to Rhodes looking likely to stay at Huddersfield!

As for Bangura, he wasn't Lenny's signing apparently, whereas Diawara is defo a Lennon choice!

If he can make the transition from Portugese football to spl easily then his signing, combined with the return of Izzy & Maj, not to mention K Wilson, Rogne, Commons, etc, etc, should go a long way to ensuring the title returns to it's rightful home!

    Hail Hail

The red part of your post is pretty obvious, Lennon said he definitely wants a more physical, dominant striker and Diawara is that type

Heard a radio interview with Banguras agent and he says it was John Park that watched Bangura and told both him and Bangura that celtic were going to sign him. There was no mention of any of them speaking with lennon prior to the signing so it may not have been anything to do with Neil but I cant imagine him not having a say in it at all.

IMO bangura was back up to us not getting Diawara and thats how it turned out. I think if the reports of lennon going to watch diawara are true then I would beleive that is the man he wants. He also did wach Rhodes but I dont think that will happen in January.

    Already answered but here we go;

It's been reported that Bangura was not Lenny's signing, hence the 'apparently'

As for how do I know - well how often has Neil been to watch him play? Surely that and the fact that the transfer has been publicly discussed, especially by the Portugese, should tell you!

He wont be coming. 99% certain of that now. We have a big squad now. We have 4 fit strikers - Sammy, Stokes, Hooper and Bangura. All our midfielders, bar Commons are fit, and or defence is strong.

That and the fact we are now starting to put the choke onto the huns would suggest the board wont sanction a £3m+ bid that it will take to sign him.

We have Lustig coming in, and I believe that we probably will sign someone else, but it will probably be a free or a minor signing. Unless we can offload Bangura (who looks like a dud) that is.

I agree Kemosabe. I don't think we will sign anyone in January.
Bangura may go out on loan, or we will offload him, and bring in a back up SPL striker. maybe John Sutton.

We also have Rasmussen coming back after another loan deal that hasnt worked out. If we arent bringing in another striker, I would be more inclined to try and loan out Bangura and have Ras as back up. We know he can score goals. It seems that he doesnt fit at the club though.

Celtic still lead race to land Baba Diawara and Rafik Halliche
Dec 30 2011 By Craig Swan
CELTIC remain in pole position for January targets Baba Diawara and Rafik Halliche – despite Monaco and Vitesse Arnhem last night launching counter bids for the pair.
Maritimo have booted out a £3million bid by Monaco for Senegalese hitman Baba.
And Celtic are still in the best position to land the Portuguese League’s top scorer if they are willing to pay an asking price of around £4m.
Algerian World Cup star Halliche, 25, is also awaiting a call from Glasgow. The centre-back is set to leave Fulham and impressed in a recent trial.
Parkhead boss Neil Lennon, approaching the transfer window with added relish after his side jumped two points clear of Rangers at the top of the SPL, will assess all defensive options before making a decision.
The nominal fee for Halliche is still attractive – but sources in Holland say Vitesse have swooped with a proposal to Craven Cottage chiefs on a deal for the stopper.

    From the daily record
