For this season Brazil will have a game that kicks off at 11AM every Sunday. This is try and improve viewing figures in Europe. The first game is Grêmio against newly promoted Ponte Preta. Young Yuri Mamute (Mammoth) is back from his loan spell at doomed Botafogo and has got two goals here. Currently 3 x 2 to the home side.

One game down, one defeat for Flamengo. Going to be another good season, I can sense it :smiley-laughing002: . Vanderlei Luxemburgo decided to take his kids to the post match press conference for some weird reason as well.

Vasco are back now. Instead of spending money on improving their team they have decided to buy a trillion Chinese firecrackers instead.

This could be the best Brazilian Championship in years. All the 12 biggest teams (bar Botafogo who were relegated) have competitive squads this year so we could come back to the times where any of them could win every year. The medium sized teams are also doing well and won't be punch bags. For the more I hate Ponte Preta they assembled a decent squad and I won't have the pleasure to see them relegated this year I think.

Internacional, São Paulo and Corinthians have the best squads currently, but all three of them are playing second string teams right now. If Inter keep playing like they did this weekend they could fall too far behind.

The other original members of the Clube dos 13 (bar Bahia and Botafogo of course) will be happy to get into the Libertadores. Flamengo for example struggled against a second string São Paulo side. Húdson and Boschilia couldn't create chances and allowed Fla time on the ball. Still, with this time Fla couldn't do a huge amount. There was only one real chance, but Rogério Ceni became the worlds fastest OAP and got to it.

I think Flamengo represent everyone else this year. For the first time in living memory there isn't a big side that looks like they are in danger of being relegated. Everyone looks comfortable, with a few maybe in a position to spring a surprise.

There also isn't a small/interior side that look like they could do something. Goiás maybe, Sport maybe, but its a long shot.

They are built around the amazingly named Fernando Bob. When he is placed there in the centre he can control the play for Ponte. Take him out and they'll struggle. Ponte took him out of that position and moved him out to the wing against Grêmio, only to concede three goals. Another example would be when they moved Bob to the left-back position for the second leg of Sudamericana final and lost 2 x 0.

What chance do you think Guarani have this season? Seen you bought this Johnnatan from CRB to be your wheel. He is seemingly an OK player (for this level) and played a good role in getting CRB promoted.

Also seen you sold the Brinco de Ouro. The debts are huge but hopefully the stadium isn't demolished to make way for some property developer. It's iconic

I don't believe in a promotion, it will be exactly the same mid table finish in the third tier as usual. This season sound exactly like all the others before, an horrible Paulista leading to dismantling the squad completely for the second half of the season, among all the rumours of financial meltdown and unpaind wages. It's really hard to stream the Brazilian Serie C from here and I have to admit I have never seen any of those players but, when it quacks like a duck... As you say the team is fighting for survival and unlike certain teams in Scotland the brazilian football pyramid doesn't allow us to just let it fold and restart as a newco.

The stadium wasn't exactly sold. It was forcibly auctioned by the local court in a really shady transaction for one third of its actual value where a big company who is an investor at the team and could pay what the ground was worth was barred from taking part. The thing is since the money the team would get from it isn't enough to pay the debt, build new facilities and restart the club therefore actually threatening the existence of it. To make it worse as you may know the Sao Paulo and Brazilian FAs have ridiculously strict rules regarding stadiums which means that Guarani simply can't build a small stadium in line with its current attendances for the moment. An insulting 15k capacity is demanding to play the Campeonato Paulista. About 9 stadiums in the entire Scotland have more than this. The board believes a 20k ground would be in level with the club needs and ambitions.
The city council isn't being actually helpful as well. They are not exactly nice politicians already, plus everything involving Guarani and Ponte Preta has an insane amount of tribalism and bickering. The only good news are that apparently the company who auctioned it has some common sense and they are trying to negotiate a solution good enough for both, which for the team would at very least help at building a new ground. Guarani has at least one year more left in that ground. After this nobody knows.

Pretty tame 1st half. Both teams struggling with the final ball. Neither side controlling the game, almost a replica of the 1st half of the league a week or so ago.

Sanchez of River has been the most consistent performer so far. Making some decent head way down the right side. Like the rest he's failed with his final ball.

Looks like it might be getting cancelled. Think Boca fans have thrown some form of gas at River players, one of them is having trouble with his eyes due to the gas :smiley-laughing002:. * mental.

Forgot it was on and turned it on there, just seen River players going nuts. Commentator just said it was pepper spray. Some fan must've ran on and sprayed it in their eyes. * *.

It appears that pepper spray/tear gas was thrown at the River players.

There are numerous groups of people on the pitch. Players, management, referees, reporters, security.

Looks Like they are trying to give Boca fans the chance to calm down.
