As far as Nas goes, I kinda think of him as two separate people: the guy who made Illmatic, and the other guy...

Exactly, If anything I think he is very lucky to be on a top 10 list for 2013.

'It Was Written' is easily one of the most underrated albums ever, but anything that followed 'Illmatic' was always going to be.I mean just how do you top what is widely considered the best hip hop album of all time?

Not counting his second effort (which I consider a classic) there are still glimmers of brilliance in his next few albums, the ill-fated 'Firm' project,'Nastradamus' and 'I am'...but they are nothing on the return to form that 'Stillmatic' was, that's another all time classic hip hop album, one of the very best imo.Tracks like Rewind,Ether,You're da Man - come on that's better than 99% of anything that's came out since - by anyone.
'*'s Son' continued his return to greatness, that's a solid effort by Nas which contains some of the most personal and intricate lyrics yet.'Get Down' 'Made You Look' 'Mastermind' 'Dance',all dripping with dopeness.

I'm not that big a fan of his work since, despite liking a few moments on 'Hip Hop is Dead',but to say he's done nothing of note of fell-off completely since 'Illmatic' was released is false.

I agree. His album with Damian Marley was good though (i'm a bit bias because I like all Damians stuff).

As I've said earlier in this thread, hip hop and rap is at it's very worst just now. K-Rino being the only one who consistently releases top class albums.

I agree with you about most of that. 'It Was Written' has one of my favourite songs, 'If I Ruled The World'. I liked 'I Am...', didn't like 'Nastradamus', but 'Stillmatic' was obviously much better.

But since '*'s Son' There really hasn't been much. Apart from a few songs on 'Untitled' (He couldn't get the name he wanted). The Damian Marley Colab was good.

I'm not saying Nas isn't one of the greatest of all time, he just doesn't deserve to be on a Top 10 list of current rappers based on their recent releases.

I think it's in better shape than it was in the past few years, when Lil' Wayne literally dominated everything. That just shows how bad things were.

    Speaking of Nas.

I think DJ Khaled has created some of the most horrific collaborations in history. I don't know what part he played in this but it is fantastic.

Newest talent out of New York. His mixtape 1999 is brilliant.

How this fat * is famous and rich is one of life's biggest mysterious. He can't rap, he can't sing, he can't produce, he can't dance, he can't even stand and bop his head menacingly in a video because he's an unthreatening obese teddy bear.

He's not actually a proper DJ either ffs!

I actually like most modern rap, but DJ Khaled is a * abomination and it would definitely be a good thing for the planet were he to fall in a volcano.

I know mate! As far as I know he had no part to play in that song except promote it maybe, but Nas, Scarface and DJ Premier could easily promote it much more effectively on their own.
