    i didnt get mass but i did get a few ashes from a priest in an envelope:icon_mrgreen:wife is away to mates,ive had a crazy day with the wee man,i didnt eat meat,been told could be out of work in 2 weeks.....ive 10 tins of guinness in the fridge,then i thought..........* i cant drink.and im off tomorrow.

    It's not even the season of Septuagesima yet. :smiley-laughing002: But true, Lent's early this year.

    On Ash Wednesday you may consume alcohol. The only stricture is the same one placed on all Catholics universally. Drink responsibly and drink for a good time.

    As an interesting tidbit, it's not very traditional to give up alcohol for Lent. In fact, Lent is, in large part, why we have beer in the first place. Beer has its origins within monasticism. And monks, as you may know, are accustomed to fasting. Since Catholics fasted for all of Lent until very recently, the monks developed beer as a nutritional liquid supplement to their diet, so that they stayed in robust health for the necessary labours of day to day life.

    In other words, a good Catholic skips Gregs in the morning and heads to the pub for a stout in the afternoon! :icon_mrgreen:
