McDonald And Vennegoor Head Celtic Attack.

The Scottish Premier League really kicks off tomorrow
when champions Celtic host St Mirren. However fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Greek star Georgios Samaras may have to wait a while longer as manager Gordon Strachan is sticking with Scott McDonald and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink up front.

"We have two strikers who scored 50 goals so you try to find a system that compliments your best parts.", said Strachan.

Scott McDonald stole the show last year scoring 31 goals in his debut season. Yet it is Vennegoor who is showing promise for the new season. The dutchman who came to life at the end of last season has had a great pre season, scoring against Middlesborough, Porto and Feyenoord.

This partnership will be the first to last 2 seasons since the famous triangle of Hartson, Sutton and Larsson....
SPL 08/09 it’s here!

After last seasons roller-coaster ride what does this season have in store?

The SPL kicks off in earnest today, although Celtic will have to wait 24 hours to unfurl the championship flag which took a herculean effort from all concerned to retain.

It would be naive to believe that Celtic could walk it this season but with Rangers early exit from Europe, the devastating financial implications and their squad full of ageing journeyman, this season already has an air of inevitability about it.

Celtic are light years in front of Rangers and the rest of the SPL´s paupers, both on and off the pitch. This gap is now likely to widen further over the coming weeks and months.

We have been boosted by the signings of Georgios...
Big Kick-Off Looming As Celt's End Pre-Season with a Draw

Celtic ended their pre-season preparations last night against Premiership big-spenders Manchester City at a rain soaked Parkhead in front of a modest crowd of just fewer than 25,000.

Having taken great confidence from their final game against Feyenoord only days earlier, defeating the hosts of the tournament 3-1 with a dynamic and energetic performance, Gordon Strachan decided to use the game against City to run his eye over a few of the squads fringe players.

Riordan and Gravesen were both brought in from the cold and starts were also handed to the young centre half pairing of O'Dea and Cuthbert as well as 20 year old forward...
Crosas a done deal?

Reports coming out of Barcelona tonight suggest Marc Crosas is Celtic bound. The two clubs seem to have reached agreement on an initial 500,000 Euros with a further 900,000 of variables depending on appearances and success. Further clauses stipulate that Barcelona would be due 25% of any future transfer. They have also stipulated a 2 million euro buy back option if they wish to bring Crosas back to the Nou camp.

Direct report from FC Barcelona website.

"FC Barcelona and Glasgow Celtic have almost reached an agreement on the transfer of Marc Crosas for half a million Euros fixed plus 900.000 in variables.

Celts lack fight in Rotterdam

Celtic - Boruc, Hinkel, Caldwell, McManus, Wilson, Robson, Brown, Hartley, McGeady, JVOH ,McDonald

Tottenham Hotspur – Gomes, Assou-Ketto, Dawson, Woodgate, Zokora, Huddlestone, Jenas, Modric, Lennon, Berbatov, Bent

Celtic and Tottenham kicked off the opening game of the Feyenoord Tournament, with tournament organisers unhappy at Gordon Strachan’s failure to attend a pre-match press conference, fielding strong teams but delivering a somewhat lacklustre contest on a warm evening in Rotterdam with Spurs winning comfortably 2-0. Celtic fielded what many would consider their strongest XI, bar the injured Nakamura, but failed to show the combative streak which was much in evidence in the recent friendly against old foes Porto.

For much of the first half Celtic struggled to retain possession and Spurs played through them with relative ease. Once again Artur Boruc proved just how vital he is to his team with a series of close range...
