Maloney Shines As Celts Win

Born-again bhoy Maloney stole the show today at Celtic Park as a McManus header and a brace from Georgios Samaras gave Celtic a comfortable league victory over Falkirk.

With rivals Rangers only managing a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen earlier in the day, the onus was on Celtic to try to secure first place in the SPL going into next week's Old Firm Derby. Last season's top-scorer Scott McDonald was ruled out with a groin injury, with Greek striker Georgios Samaras taking his place up front. New Bhoy Glenn Loovens made his debut as centre-back, replacing Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney started on the bench.

Celtic started the game looking a little ragged, with close chances falling to both sides. Within the first minute, a Venegoor Of Hesselink shot curled wide of the post, while a few minutes later, captain Stephen McManus sloppy pass almost cost Celtic a goal.

Artur Boruc had a good game today with some...
Welcome home Shaun!!

After what seems like the longest transfer saga in history, Shaun Maloney is back! Since the day he departed for Villa, speculation about his return to Celtic has been rife. All the speculation can now end, as today Celtic have confirmed his return.

A press conference is scheduled at Celtic’s Lennoxtown training centre later today, where Maloney will be officially unveiled to the waiting press.

Aston Villa have confirmed that Maloney has rejoined Celtic in a deal that will be worth a maximum of £2.5M to Villa depending on performance related bonuses. Maloney had 2 years left on his Villa contract.

Celtic fans will no doubt welcome Maloney back with open arms, however in many eyes he left the club under a cloud. He has now been given a second chance, hopefully he will take it and once again become a firm fans...
Shaun Maloney Edging Closer To Return Move.

It has emerged today the former Celtic player, Shaun Maloney, is on the verge of a return to the club. Celtic have confirmed they have held talks with the 25 year old but insist he has not signed, yet.

Maloney left Celtic 18 months ago for Premiership side Aston Villa. However it has not worked out for him, few starts and home sickness have meant that his heart has always been back at Celtic.

It will not take Maloney long to find his way around Celtic Park as he made no fewer than 103 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals.

The club and the player may be happy to thrash out a deal but some supporters have long memories. Maloney left Celtic when he was highly regarded in the team and tipped to become a hero amongst the Parkhead faithful. Furthermore in 2004 Maloney suffered ligament injuries which could have stalled his career completely, instead the Celtic staff nursed him back to full...
Evander's Celtic Career 'Sno'd' Off

21 year old enigmatic midfielder Evander Sno today signed for Dutch giants Ajax, for an as yet undisclosed fee, on a 3 year deal according to reports.

The Dutch Under-21 International, who has previously played for Ajax youth side's, brings to a close a stop-start career at Parkhead which initially promised so much but ultimately delivered little.

During his 49 appearances in the hoops he split opinion on his ability to become a mainstay in Celtic's midfield, with a minority spotting something bursting to get through and the majority believing he'd never make it due to his clumsiness and over-elaborate playing style.

The former Feyenoord man, signed for Celtic on the back of an impressive loan spell at NAC Breda, now makes Ajax the 3rd Dutch club he's played for in his short career. He will be hoping to impress his new boss Marco Van Basten enough to get a...
Celtic and Thomas Gravesen go their separate ways

It has been agreed today that Celtic Football Club and Thomas Gravesen will part company with immediate effect. It's been reported that the former Real Madrid and Everton midfielder received a pay out of around £1.2m.

Thomas has said that he'd like to wish the Celts all the best for the future, while the Celts have returned the good wishes.

It's safe to say that the two years in which Thomas spent at the club weren't the happiest of his career. He signed in August 2006 from Spanish giants Real Madrid, just before the transfer window closed, for a fee of around £2m.

After a very promising start to his Hoops career - including a goal against Rangers and a hat trick against St Mirren - he was soon replaced in the starting XI by Dutch midfielder Evander Sno.

After not getting much of a look in at the end of the 06/07 season, the Hoops accepted Everton's offer to take Gravesen on a season-long...
