No he didn’t mate, we 100% started 3 at the back. The formation change happened further forward.

Thought he was our most reliable player in the first half. Plenty went his way in terms of defence and attack but he was incredibley solid on both fronts.

No chance, you must have been watching a different first half.. :56:

Forrest was much further forward in the 1st, Elhamed was defo RB..

Hayes was LB and exposed badly in the 1st..

It is a fluid shape right enough..:50:

Could not disagree more mate, Elhamed was tucked in as a 3rd centre back.

Just look at the shape when they scored.

Look at the attempted shape. Watch the start again mate, Elhamed’s RCB, Jullien in the middle, Ajer LCB.

3 in the middle, Elyounoussi just behind Eddy.

Like I say it is a fluid shape, the position Forrest was in for the goal looked like his natural position.. he was much deeper in the 2nd... Ajer wasn’t close to Hayes in the first 20 in the way you would expect a L/CB in a back 3 to be..

Could be they pushed us back and we took time to adapt..

    Anyway cracking night.. :50: :shamrock:

They started on absolute fire. Think we took a while to get used to the shape of it, then he changed it by pushing Christie a wee bit further forward to support Eddy along with Elyounoussi.

And here’s where the genius part is... An attacking change made us far more solid defensively, purely by defending on the front foot and forcing them to play in positions they didn’t want to.

I can’t believe the stick the guy gets. Didn’t realise how bad it was until recently.

Was listening to the 20 minute tims and they put the boot into him last week all quite worried he might start against Lazio. Also a lot of people on Twitter were complaining about him starting tonight as well.

I don’t think iv seen him have a bad game for us yet ? He was excellent tonight and a great squad player to have

Heard him say it didn't play it that way tho.. :56:

Cos managers are known for giving away their formation pre-match.

Agreed. I just don't get any of it at all. Nobody is saying he is one of our star men or expected to be. He is a committed reliable player who given the massive load of games we play over a season can be counted on to step in and put in solid performances here and there.

Did not stop running! Love the guy, actually confident that he can play anywhere down that left wing in any game!

he's a throwback to the sort of player who will give 110% for the team, like a peter grant or roy aitken type, wern't the prettiest, but gave you everything.
every team needs a player like johnny Hayes.
