Stopped paying it the Day after Indyref, been at the door loads of times and if I do speak to them, its to say dont need it, and they then ask why, to which i say because I dont. Dont tell them anything just dingy them, even at the door just shake you're head and snort in disgust. Once had a trumpet bang on the door, I opened it to be asked right away who I was, told this bam that unless he was the serious crime squad he better run or face the consequences.....he ran.

Apparently even if your tv is capable of getting bbc Bias and your ariel is unplugged then according to them it means you cannot access thier channel so no payment needed. Basically they have to visually see that you can get bbc if not no problem.
Most people are not having to pay for licences too because they have the netflix thing on say a firestick because you do not have to buy the bbc channel if you do then you will have to pay the licence fee.

Ohh BTW as a side note I just found out yesterday that politicians don't have to pay tv licences apparently they can claim it on thier expenses. But even pensioners have to pay theirs !!

Fuckkin liberty, yet we are all scum ..prix

Years ago, I just stopped paying for the licence. They will send you loads of letters which eventually revert back to being for the householder as opposed to in your own name. Get more letters from them about starting an investigation etc etc but the letters just repeat themselves after a short cycle. Never had them at the door that I know of but the best thing to do if they come to your door is not to talk to them, just close the door on them again and don’t admit who you are. Got loads of good tips on here :

What if you have a sky dish? Incidentaly I have paid my tv license religiously for 36 years and I have an envelope full of them going back to 1983. I feel I can no longer watch BBC (I only watched the politics) and contribute to the kind of bias that is as plain as the nose on your face. Today I'm taking a stand albeit in my own small way. Thankfully I'm not a soap addict and my hubby uses his firestick to watch all the men stuff such as sports and programs about diggers in the desert, restoration and stuff like that :56:Most of the time we're too busy living our lives and the rest of it is on the internet.

Never paid it and when they’ve appeared at the door and tried to come in etc they’ve been chased. Literally.

Had one flash his I.D once and just try and walk straight through my door. The * got chased down the street for his cheek, don’t know who he thought he was with his * badge but no * will be walking right in to my house where my wee boy lives unless they’ve got a warrant :giggle1: * could have been anybody with a bogus badge.

The time after that they sent 2 big heavy * who tried there best to act like polis and intimidate me, refused to tell me who they were and refused to show me ID. They got chased aswell with a blunt object. Wee badge and they think they’re some sort of authority.

    * the BBC. Biased, royalist, peado harbouring *.

We literally never watch the ordinary TV. We subscribed to Sky etc for decades too and paid out a fortune every month. I don't see why I should pay for something I refuse to watch.

I'm up for no paying it, but how do you avoid having a window that's floor to ceiling and a 65 inch thing on the wall, most likely watching her eastenders * :56:

Utter nonsense that you are forced to pay a licence to have a TV. Especially considering it goes directly to one TV station when you might not even watch their programs.

They have no authority to enter your house unless they have a warrant and you are under no obligation to give them your name or any details about yourself.

If you are watching BBC iplayer through a Chromecast, Firestick, Ipad etc. and don't have a licence then you are inadvertently disclosing your IP address which could theoretically be used to show someone in the household is watching TV without a licence. But following this up legally will be a costly process for them and I imagine the instances they do it are extremely rare.

It's ridiculously out of date, if the people in charge at the bbc weren't dinosaurs completely out of touch with modern media they'd just invest a bit more heavily in the iplayer, make it a subscription service and open it up worldwide, could easily bring in more money than the license fee in the uk, especially with younger generations paying it less and less.

They rely on you admitting on your doorstep that you watch live broadcast tv... never even talk to them.

Probably because your address is off their radar. Someone who suddenly stops paying or purchases a device with a tuner gets flagged up immediately.

Not sold... the sellers are obliged to provide the tv licensing fascists with details.

Stop your DD. Unplug your aerial (if genuinely not watching live tv) and be prepared for letters and then a doorstep visit from the CAPITA gestapo..

They are on commission and paid for sales. Basically given a list of properties without licenses and tasked to get them signed up on the doorstep. I have a pre-printed sheet with a list of my equipment and what it is used for. I’m also declared on their site as ‘no license required’ but doesn’t stop them assuming you’re lying.

Btw... it’s not just bbc you need the license for... its ANY live/as broadcast tv station (bbc or other) and any use of bbc iPlayer. If you watch sky as broadcast you’re still liable and bbc get most of the fee.

In theory your supposed to have your tv detuned and aerial disconnected but with modern smart TVs and assorted cable inputs can be difficult. Really... they gave to prove you are watching live broadcasts. I’ve heard of them videoing through curtains to catch people and correlating the programme/time to get grounds for prosecution.

    Free if over 75. Whoopeeedooo!!!

Btw. Channel 4 get a small proportion of the license fee.

They fear commercialism (although they embrace it in other ways) overcoming their broadcasting grip. The license fee generates enormous income which the payers are pretty much obliged to pay yet have no say in how it’s used or spent !

They fear that revenue being lost and rather than actually reform the system it’s more likely to be tightened up.

Not so long ago (and still presumably) the bbc were lobbying government to make the license fee compulsory for anyone with a home broadband service. The assumption being that they could and would use iPlayer.

They kind of flatter themselves as I’ve spent 20 years avoiding * like eastenders and programmes about third rate actors and cricketers learning to dance.

It is another tax on something that you may never actually use. Someone could watch itv3 and nothing else... that channel gets no part of the fee but the viewer is obliged to pay.

Netflix, prime, online hubs etc. are killing them and their ‘compulsory tax’ model will not last.. too many people are catching on about how not to pay for something you don’t use...

They WILL have to change otherwise change going on around then will see their demise.

If the BBC went under I could tick it off my list of institutions I’d like to see disappear in my lifetime..

(Others being the royal family, Sevco, House of Lords and honours lists - although those last two would go with the royal family)

Long story short. Back when TVs were just becoming popular we were led to believe that vans detected the use of TVs which was completely *. You were likely to get a visit after buying or renting a telly or VHS.

People didn't know any better and got threatened with legal action that may have been lawful at the time I'm not sure.

Nowadays they just chap because they know everyone has TVs and a lot will pay because it's all very official.

Like I said it's easy for us blokes to say chase the * but for a lot of people that's not an option.

There should actually be an Ad campaign by the BBC themselves on social media highlighting the chance to opt out legally and without confrontation.

As usual the most vulnerable in society will be the ones who never read this and find out their is a lawful way to cancel what is basically a "compulsory" subscription.

Phone them up , say your cancelling, they will ask why. As other have said you don't need a reason. I gave one. I use Netflix to watch on demand content only, I don't watch TV as it is broadcast. Licence cancelled with no fuss or further persuasion

Never had one, called once asked who the householder was, door was closed in his face.
Say nothin, sign nothing, they literally cant do anything unless you sign the admission of guilt form.
