Whats really worrying me is that one of these mistakes could be coming in a very important European game i.e. against Slavia Prague in the CL play-off game when its 0-0 on aggregate with 5 minutes left. I only mention this because Ive seen this movie many times before, whether its a horrendous mistake from a dodgy defender or a howler from a dodgy Keeper. Making a mistake against Motherwell when we've put 5 past them is one thing, blowing our CL chances in a tight game is a completely different story.

Can't say I'm surprised his hype train has come grinding to a halt.

He's never really been good enough IMO.

Decent enough back up, but I don't ever see him having those Boruc like nights at a higher level. He will do the business most of the time domestically, but we should 100% be looking for a proper #1.

I dont think he did that bad on the 1st goal. Not a save I'd expect a keeper of his level to make.
The full back situation isnt half the problem he is if hes persisted with.

I think its negligent with the financial advantage we have that we dont have the best keeper in the country. Good keepers are worth so many points and are often the difference in Europe. We should be spending whatevers needed on one.

The first goal was a shocker to concede. So slow to react to it.

He was class for the first couple of months when he came into the team. But since about March time he’s not been the same ‘keeper.

I’d still rather have him than Gordon though, but I do think we need a new keeper with Bain as back up.

Said in another thread prior to the game today that I think we should be using the Tierney money to bring in a left back and a goalkeeper. Bain rightly got his chance and has done well. I think we need better however.

    * me not Forster, Gordon's kicking is poor, but tbh maybe it only has to be up the park we need to stop * around at the back which we have done slightly I think.

Gordon is still our best goalie for me and for saving shots he's excellent at it.

No sure if it's something we deliberately do, but I find it crazy the fact Bain time and time again kicks it long to Forrest. Done it yesterday and against Cluj. It's just going to come straight back at us.

Going through a tough period at the minute.

He came into the team at a time when we were flying and didn't have a lot of saves to make - but made them when he had to. On top of that, he kept moves flowing with his passing out from the back.

His distribution has been much poorer recently, partly because of the positioning of his team-mates and partly because of the instructions from the manager - but it's definitely been poorer.

Should have done better with the goal yesterday, but he's not a bad goalkeeper. Long-term No 1? Maybe not.

Man, again, people so quick to criticise. He’s a solid goalkeeper and is obviously doing something right to keep Gordon sitting on the side lines.

Gordon is on the decline and has been for over a season.

    100%. But it won't happen.

I fear that Gordon will replace him in October because too many errors. And in January the chat will be about needing two goalkeepers

Bain, like almost any keeper, looks only as comfortable as the state of the defence in front of him... so, at the moment he looks * terrible... when he had a happy, settled Tierney, ajer, Benkovic, boyata, lustig combo in front of him he was able to do his own thing quite happily too. Until our defense gels or we bring in new quality I'm fearful he'll continue to make slip ups...

This is the thing with keepers. They need an understanding with the guys in front of them, and he's been landed with Bolingoli :giggle2:

He hasn’t filled me with confidence this season tbh. I seriously worry about him if/when we come up against quality opposition in Europe.

His form certainly dipped nearing the end of last season and I think over time it's being noticed he isn't the answer going forward.
He was brought in to the starting line up (and keeps it) as he is better than Gordon, certainly at distribution and commanding the area and organising the defence a little better. He instils more confidence in the defence than Gordon ever has.

Neither are good enough to carry us through a European campaign. We need a new keeper, but with both these guys still on the books I very much doubt any new keeper is being looked at.

I'd be wanting shot of Gordon first, and have Bain as a backup (more than good enough for that) to a younger more competent keeper.
