I got a really good view of a Bullfinch at work last week . I was about 10 feet away from him as he sat on a fence . First sighting for several years for me .

I've been looking at that photo for a while now! I agree with cidermaster, certainly thrush shape, and possibly juvenile blackbird, although it does look surprisingly pale in the breast perhaps?

Just looked up White Lettered Hairstreak, they seem to have been hit hard by the dwindling number of Elms, and they aren't too common up around your patch, so that's an excellent garden recording. I have a day off tomorrow, so will take a long walk on the Downs with the dog, and let you know if I see a Clouded Yellow!

Yes there was a small colony of White Lettered Hairstreak in my local woodland last year no sign of them though this year which is sad.
4 miles from my house in a park there is another colony which one again has been successful this year as a number of observers have seen them.
Right the challenge between us who gets a Clouded Yellow this summer:50:

Bullfinch are my favourite small bird. Stunningly beautiful, especially the male.
Call me crazy if you want, but I always think Bullfinch love listening to heavy metal music.
I think they look like wee Bikers, tough as * wee birds.

I saw something rather strange today at work . It was a Red Squirrel climbing head first down a building's gable end . It was going very quickly , then stopped for a look around , and then took off again . The gable end was covered in harling , so I suppose it would have got a good grip .

This little * ran in through the patio door, hid among my books for about 40 minutes before heading back out the door again.

I keep the Celtic books in the other room. All the little * had to choose from were philosophy and gardening books and dictionaries. Maybe why it left so sharp.
