The game is on offer on Steam at the moment. Perfect opportunity to pick it up...a week after I did and paid the full wack. :56::52:

No regrets though. Been overdue an FM fix. Gonna start with Celtic to get a feel for the game as it's been a while. Any recommendations or tips are appreciated. I'll dip through the thread as I progress. Won my first qualifier 13-0 so game hasn't changed that much! :60:

Trondsen is a great wee steal. Just signed him in the summer of my 2nd season for 1.8m.

Almada and Fuentes look great future prospects, too! Also got in Markovic, Simsir, Bulat, and Julien Lopez who are well regarded.

One of the biggest signings I made was Nicholas Dominguez. He cost me 7.5m, but I got 40m for Griffiths! :56:

Got 90m plus 30% sell on off City for Ajer, holy * :56::57: Gutted to see him go, but couldn't keep him! Hopefully with this money I can turn us into CL challengers and prevent the loss of future world class players.

    Awww.

There’s loads of FM forums and YouTube channels so anything you need to learn about is easily available.

All I would say is stick with your first season for a good while no matter how * it is or what just to learn everything.

Always regret selling the likes of Ajer or KT cause, unless it’s a regen, you’ll struggle as Celtic to get better.

Signed some belters in my current save - there’s a young French CB at Monaco called Benoit something beginning with a B. Him and Ajer CBs are amazing! Think I might’ve posted it previously in this thread

Sold Ntcham for 33m+ 50% sell on to Dortmund. He was in and out of the team, so seemed a no brainer. Has anybody got more for him? Chelsea were sniffing around him for over a year but never made a bid.

My best team currently looks like:

    Rajkovic

    Maresic, Mere, Markovic

    J.Gonzalez/I.Gomez/Tonali

    Dominguez, Trondsen

    Rogic/Almada

    Pedrinho/Lovren, G.Martinez/Okafor

    Edouard/Botheim
I dominate possession-wise and have stockpiled youth, but Europe seems a tough cookie to crack. Have got two impossible groups so far and not progressed beyond that stage. It may take a couple or so to do so. Not sure if I'll stick with it that long...

There is a football management game on the PS4 called New Star Manager it's actually quite good, it's so basic but oddly quite addictive.

The money you can make in a Celtic save is madness.

    £60m for Tierney
    £50m for Edouard
    £35m for Ajer
    £30m for Ntcham
    £25m for Rogic
    £23m for McGregor
    £20m for Sinclair
    £20m for Simunovic
    £20m for Forrest

    Then players I’d bought;

    £30m for Josh Tymon
    £20m for Greg Taylor
    £20m for Max Aarons
    £20m for Andre Onana
    £40m for Alphonso Davies
    £40m for Matheus Cunha
    £35m for Pelayo Morilla
    £30m for John Souttar
    £40m for Svetozar Markovic
    £50m for Ryan Gravenberch
    £40m for Xadas

That’s not including the regens for £90m, £99m and £80m.

It’s a fun save but gets boring.

Just had the ideal scenario where I beat huns to seal 9iar.

Even brought Boruc on as a sub for his last ever football appearance before retiring (he was coach/backup goalie)

Aye. I wound up winning the Europa league in my second season. I was absolutely dominating with high 60-70% possession. I'll share my tactics next I'm on my PC but it's been strikingly easy. I decided to join Newcastle as they've a new owner and an improved stadium (4th highest in country, I think). If that doesn't put to test my tactics, I don't know what will.

First signings were of course going back for KT and Edouard. Let's take the EPL by storm.

It's taken a while but I've finally managed to get through the slog of 25/26.

We atoned for our frustrating CL group exit by romping home to win the Europa League. Fitting for the final to be in Glasgow as we also won it there back in my second (or was it third?) season of course, beating Monaco at Ibrox. Toughest stage was probably the semi final against United, who were out for revenge for us humiliating them 6-0 in the CL final a few seasons back. First leg was a cagey 1-0 loss to them at Old Trafford, Doku popped up with a brace in the return leg and we managed to hold on for the win. Could have had Atleti in the final but Southampton upset them in the other semi. No danger of them repeating the trick in the final however, they were pretty woeful despite having some tasty regens.

Coppa Italia was a little bonus for the trophy cabinet. Fun final with it being a Genoa derby. But I was * * to lose first-choice B2B Alfredo Perri to injury, strained knee ligaments which kept him out of action for 6 weeks and complicated his World Cup preparation.

League was a non-contest, however we didn't quite manage another unbeaten season. Our proud unbeaten streak came to an end after Milan managed to steal a 0-1 win at the Luigi Ferraris. Really wanted to hit triple figures but our league games without loss tally reached a high water mark of 86. Can't see us threatening to better that record any time soon. Juve spent the bulk of the season in the CL places but slumped down the final stretch. Idiots.

In other news, my Edinburgh cabal of directors continue to syphon money out of the club while refusing to back my requests for a new stadium.

If it wasn't for my diligent penny-pinching we wouldn't have profits to dip into, you *. This got me a bit fed up with hoarding money only to see it disappear into the pockets of fictional suits, and I was also a bit drunk, so I decided to go all lavish and buy Federico Chiesa for a bunch of money. Drunk buying is the best.

Amusingly he'd had a falling out with Pep Guardiola over broken promises to improve the status of his club, and ended up submitting a transfer request. This meant he was on the market at a more reasonable fee than what my scouts had previously quoted. They wanted 73m, his base value was 65m. Reasonable. I bartered them down to 69m up front with 1.5m in appearance bonuses and a 2.5m bonus after 40 league goals. He's 28 and due to turn 29 in October. But he's still worth it imo regardless of lacking sell-on value if he stays with me for the desired 4-5 years. He's several notches better than my starting RW Vignato, and I'm not too fussed about selling my regen second-choice RW Musso to make space for him. He's reached his development peak and is a decent enough backup, but nothing special. So time to cash in.

He's basically wasted his career at Tottenham, banging in a bunch of goals but not winning a single bit of silverware. So I envisage this as a sort of late career Van Persie-style move to hoover up some medals/Wikipedia honours. He's actually Genoa born, which fits nicely. He doesn't have Samp listed as a favourite club but I'm guessing he would be a bit of a Samp fan irl thanks to his dad. Guardiola ended up getting sacked about a week after the move went through. Annoyingly Chiesa was completely frozen out of the team at Spurs for the rest of the season so reported for World Cup duty (more on this later) massively short of match fitness.

As for the stats, got the best out of my big beefy strikers with both of them breaking the 20 mark in all comps. Marin continues to excel and score way more goals than you'd expect from a player of his calibre. Pellegrini continues to pull the strings as my midfield playmaker, and has also really upped his free kick game. Hope he holds his level for another couple of years at least as he'll be a nightmare to replace, don't have any good regens on the books coming through who play his role. Vignato's 18 assists were really impressive, bit harsh for him to get demoted next season behind Chiesa but I'll endeavour to keep him involved as much as possible.

Thinking of jettisoning Moise Kean in the summer as he doesn't play nearly as often enough for his level of talent. He's far too much of a luxury at 3rd choice LW/3rd choice striker. Also have an Italian regen LW who I want to promote to the first team after a solid loan season at Napoli. Doku can cover 3rd-choice striker so I wouldn't miss anything in terms of depth. Also would like him playing regularly somewhere for the sake of the national team.

Don't have any big plans apart from that. Will promote regen wonderkid keeper David Hendry to second-choice GK as he's now too old for the U18s. But the rest of the defensive unit will remain unchanged. Think I can get at least another season out of Anderson and Souttar before having to think about replacing them. And the fullbacks are all on the younger side anyway. Slight question marks around who I'll have as a 5th-choice CM. Had a kid on loan from Roma last season who plugged the gap, but they didn't want to loan him again. Might look at promoting someone from the loan army or the youth ranks.

World Cup 2026 Jamboree: Living in America/Canada/Mexico

First thing's first, my 23-man squad.

    GKs:

Gigi Donnarumma: Still a one-club man at this point with 424 Milan league apps to his name. Slightly better than Plizzari on paper. Yet to win a major club honour aside from a couple of Coppa.

Alessandro Plizzari: My #1 at Samp, bought him way back in my first season from Milan for 12.25m, he very quickly displaced Emil Audero to win the starting spot and has gone on to make 265 league apps for me. Typically gets the nod as my starting keeper for Italy, but I decided to put my Samp biases to one side for the sake of the World Cup push. Played him in the first group game but was on the bench for the rest of the tournie.

Alex Meret: A very capable #3, but a firm #3 nonetheless. Plies his trade at club level for Napoli, where he’s remained for the course of the save making over 300 league appearances. Regulations dictate a minimum of three keepers, so he’s on the plane. Was tempted to bring my Samp wunderkind David Hendry along in this space (Socttish regen but I convinced him to declare for Italy) but the squad was already overloaded with Samp players, which seems to annoy the press, so I opted for the conventional ‘pick the third best keeper’ route.

    Fullbacks:

Davide Calabria: Very little to choose between my two right backs, but I tended to give Calabria the nod as Bellanova possesses the dreaded ‘doesn’t enjoy big matches trait. Calabria switched from Milan to Chelsea a couple of seasons ago, and came into the World Cup on the back of a strong performance starting in Chelsea’s CL final victory over PSG.

Raoul Bellanova: Has had a bit of a weird career really, spent a big portion of it in France with Bordeaux, was then signed by Barca who barely played him and punted him on loan to Porto where he excelled. Still starting calibre on paper with no good regens coming through to displace him just yet.

Giuseppe Roselli: In contrast to both of my RBs being real, the opposite is true of my LBs who are both regens. Roselli came through at Inter and developed quite well over a series of loan moves. Quickly established himself as Italy’s starting LB.

Oumar Fofana: Came through at Empoli and has had a series of moves up the foodchain: Fiorentina, RB Leipzig and then Liverpool. Was the starting LB for quite some time prior to Roselli displacing him, so has 30 odd caps to his name. Born in the Ivory Coast but evidently was snapped up by one of my predecessors.

    Centre halves:

Daniele Rugani: Italy’s best central defender on paper, getting on a bit now though at 32 y/o so probably his last major tournament in his prime. Sold to Man United back in the day for a pathetic 17m after I’d spent ages trying to land him for Samp. Unfortunately he chose United’s lavish contract over my rather more modest proposal. I got the last laugh in the 2024 CL final, of course.

Marco Varnier: One of my Samp regulars. Pretty straightforward choice.

Alessio Romagnoli: Milan stalwart, 60 odd caps to his name. Like Rugani probably his last major tournie considering his age. But still good enough to get on the plane with no regens matching him just yet.

Alessandro Bastoni: Final centre half pick was a genuine toss up, choice came to Napoli’s Bastoni and Milan’s Caldara. In Caldara’s favour was his familiarity of playing with Romagnoli at club level, and his excellent marking. But ultimately I decided to go with the younger Bastoni mainly on the basis of his aerial ability, and the fact that he’s got age on his side and could conceivably have two more major tournies ahead of him.

    DMs:

Sandro Tonali: No real dramas here, I play the same 4-3-3 with Italy as I do with Samp so taking two specialist DMs was a must. Tonali is the premier Italian player at the position, and has of course consistently done the business for Samp. 70 odd Italy caps to his name at just 26 y/o, surely a centurion in the making.

Roberto Gagliardini: Second DM was a bit tricky, had the choice between the more conventional defensive option in Gagliardini or Roma’s Bryan Cristante, who is more a CM who can also drop back to DM if need be. Cristante is the superior player going forward but I decided to strictly base the decision on who would be the best seamless replacement for Tonali, and Gagliardini fits the bill here despite playing for lowly West Brom at club level and having few caps.

    CMs:

Lorenzo Pellegrini: My star advanced playmaker at Samp and sure to be an absolute cornerstone of the campaign. No Italian midfielder comes close to him in terms of skill-set or creativity. Also takes a banging free kick. Bona fide superstar, no idea how I’m going to replace him in a couple of years when he starts slowing down as there are no good Italian regens coming through who play his role. Will probably have to abandon the role completely.

Nicolo Barella: This was a tough choice, the primary job for this pick would be backing up Pellegrini in the AP role, so I was considering Cristante who is more similar to Pellegrini than Barella is. However Barella offers something different in terms of physicality and shooting, and because Perri would be missing both group games as I nursed him back to fitness Barella’s versatility and ability to play BBM on the other side of the pivot swayed me in his direction.

Alfredo Perri: The only regen midfielder picked. But what a regen. Short, stout and hard as nails. Easily my most accomplished Samp regen and an automatic pick despite recovering from injury.

Nicolo Zaniolo: Samp stalwart BBM, a crucial cog despite being Perri’s understudy.

    Wingers:

Federico Chiesa: Long term Spurs stalwart but as mentioned previously now on his way to Samp for his latter (and hopefully golden) years. Came into the tournie completely unfit having been frozen out of the Spurs team, so took a while to get him up to speed.

Emmanuel Vignato: A Samp regular and a bit of a personal fave of mine. Consistently outperforms his skill level, over 50 league goals to his name for me in less than 200 league apps. Decent return for a winger. An able backup to Chiesa.

Alexander Dell’Oca: Weirdly have a mirror image thing going on in terms of real players vs regens here, with both of the LWs being regens (as with the LBs) and both of the RWs being real players. Dell’Oca is on the books with me at Samp now but came through at Perugia, interestingly enough at virtually the same time as his LW stablemate Pensa. Not often you see the same random lower tier academy throwing up two worldies who play the same position. Dell’Oca had been doing the business on loan at Napoli, after I’d picked him up on the cheap a year or two earlier having waged a long campaign to sign him for less than what Perugia wanted. Would have cost upwards of 50m at one stage but I wore them down and he stopped signing contracts there, so they eventually sold him for 12.5m rather than risk losing him for nothing.

Carlo Alberto Pensa Very solid winger and similar to Dell’Oca in terms of attributes etc. Perugia did manage to get some decent money for him, selling to Fiorentina for 24m.

    Strikers:

Pietro Pellegri: Italy’s best goalhanger on paper, a solid conventional advanced forward. Still hanging around at Monaco, constantly see him linked to big moves in the press but nobody seems to be able to muster up the cash to have a proper crack. Unfortunately him having Genoa as a favoured club means he always rebuffs my interest due to the rivalry with Samp. So he’s probably doomed to a career of handsome anonymity in a rubbish league. What do your 134 Ligue 1 goals really mean, Pietro?

Andrea Pinamonti: Tends to get the starting nod due to blatant Samp bias on my part. Desperate to see him break Mancini’s all-time Samp league goals record, he’s currently on 109 and the target is 132 (well, 133 to beat it, obvs). So he’ll no doubt get there. Cost a pretty penny at 46.5m, back in the day when dropping that much on a player felt like a big deal during the early portions of the save. In hindsight, money very well spent of course.

Btw, how * good is it to have an Italian World Cup squad that doesn’t feature a single Juventus player? And it’s not just a petty vindictive thing on my part, either, there are honestly zero Juve players anywhere near meriting selection. The three players who I’d characterise as being on the cusp of selection and just missing out were Moise Kean (Samp), Bryan Cristante (Roma) and Mattia Caldara (Milan). For a club that prides itself on being the backbone of the Azzurri historically, they’re doing a pretty rubbish job of providing for it these days.

The final breakdown in terms of club representation was - Samp: 10, Milan: 3, Napoli: 2, Inter: 1, Liverpool: 1, Barca: 1, Chelsea: 1, Monaco: 1, Fiorentina: 1, West Brom: 1, Man United: 1
