With women's football getting bigger worldwide, what do you think the chances are of a female being brought to a male football club as part of the coaching team?

I can't see it happening any time soon, but definitely think it will happen in the future at some point.

Yeah. It's already happened in the French 2nd division. Sure there was a thread on here in World football about it at the time.

I think there was a female coach in the Asian Champions League this season too.

I'd say woman coaches will become relatively common at youth and underage level.

But I can't see them ever being first team coaches, or even managers at big clubs in the men's game.

Some lower league outfit might try it for PR purposes and the BBC et al will hail it as a victory for women's equality but it will advance very little.

Female staff in football isn't a new thing, or that uncommon. More so in the physio side of course, but even coaching wise there is a few in the mens teams as well. Admittedly none massively high profile.

Don't think there is anything stopping it either, is there?

No, it would breach employment law.

Legally speaking then, what about players?

I think technically we could sign a woman and register her to play in the first team.

See the Caster Semanya debacle. Sports that are gender specific enforce it incredibly strictly. A Mexican team signed a woman in 2004 and they were stopped from playing her. A Canadian team signed a female goalkeeper after a trial but were told they couldn't register her.

The employment law is different for playing as the sport's rules are already in place. I am sure it wil be challenged again in time, but for now it looks some way off.

Actually, I don't think it is possible for players.

I was going by the SPFL rules which makes no specific reference to gender in its player register and eligibility criteria,

    But then I read this:

Yes, women are on the rise in football and all the power to them.

Women generally know * all about football so can’t see it happening anytime soon.

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if a woman was a coach, or even the manager. All that matters is if he or she has the respect and can motivate the players and has the nous to advance the club that they are working at. And as far as I'm concerned that includes at Celtic. It is not playing, so it's not about coping with the physicality. To coach, or even to manage or be an executive etc, what is most important is what is between someone's ears, not their legs.

It's the same with referees etc. The men have proven far from being entirely beyond repute - much less entirely competant - so if the integration of female officials can help to improve standards, then why not? Any reasonable steps that can be taken to improve the game and the standards of the refereeing as they currently stand, then these should be explored and encouraged.
