Absolutely vile, sickening law. Hope it’s repealed sooner rather than later.

    This is utterly despicable.

It's a sad reflection on the society in which these laws are springing up from. Alabama now following after Georgia, for instance, in this case. Under these new laws it makes pretty much every abortion illegal. Apparently there is an allowance if a woman does not know she is pregnant, she can have an abortion, but once it is known for a fact she is pregnant, it is illegal. No idea what genius thought that one up, but it has to have been a man. Seriously, how the f*ck are they supposed to not know and have an abortion so that it is legal, when even a simple pregnancy test makes it 'known', under this new law? :31:

In Georgia the law even states that if a woman leaves the state for the purpose of having an abortion in a state where it is legal, then upon her return she can be charged and jailed for up to 10 yrs. Indeed, under this new Alabama law, any doctor performing an abortion/s can potentially face up to 99 yrs behind bars. :eek1:

Clearly, the goal here for these right wing controlled legislative bodies is not just simply the enforcement of this new anti-abortion law in these states, but for these laws to be test cased in front of a court, and in effect taken all the way to the Supreme Court, in an effort to try and overturn Roe v Wade. With the Supreme Court now stacked 5-4 in favour of right wing conservative Republican types - not dissimiliar from the senators in the Alabama House that voted to pass this travesty of a law (25-6, all 25 in favour being Republican men) it would seem that would be the end game.

Please, RBG stay healthy. The rights of who knows how many women in the south, and potentially across the US, could be coming under fire and will need their strongest advocate on the Supreme Court there to try and convince her collegues, should it get to that point, that Roe v Wade has to be upheld.

60 million abortions in the US, since 1973. American 'social liberalism' in a nutshell, I suppose..

Some of those southern states in the US are frighteningly backward - and traditionally the Democrats are no better than the Republicans when it comes to redneck bigotry.

A Democratic Governor of the Alabama once tried to prevent two black students from enrolling in one of its universities, like the ignoramus actually tried to physically prevent the students from entering by blocking the entrance.

This was only the 1960s. A truly vile country.

Funny how all the 'abortion is murder' folk always seem to be uterusless. If men got pregnant, abortion would be legalised everywhere tomorrow

Remember, a school shooting is the price you pay for 'freedom', but socialized medicine/healthcare is 'slavery'.

Sure, the Jim Crow laws which obviously enforced segregation, were passed and implemented by Democrat dominated state legislatures..

Or perhaps you just don’t need to have a * to not want to kill unborn children?

You realise that the Deomcrats and Republicans effectively gradually switched places from the 1870s up to the New Deal. I'm no fan of the Democrats either but to hold them responsible for what the Southern Whig orientated Democrats of the 19th century did is ridiculous. The Republicans were once the party of emancipation and big government, now they are about 'draining the swamp' and de-regulation

If an abortion is murder, a * is genocide and a gobble is cannibalism.

I'm guessing your anti-abortion stance is religiously informed? Is that correct?
