    Birthday caird pish.

People can have a laugh and makes jokes about anything. We don't have to act like saints because we're Celtic fans.

£692 million donated from businesses and tycoons.
So my 9yo daughter will donate all of her weeks pocket money to help either addicts, the homeless, starvation, abuse etc.
    * humanity, just * it. Honestly time for a reset.

    Good on her, mate.

We all know that capitalists care little for ordinary people, and that their donations to the restoration project are driven by self-interest, but we should welcome this news.

Notre-Dame de Paris is one of the most important artefacts in our collective history. It is of immense significance to Western civilisation as a whole (our architecture, art, history, literature, music, philosophy, religion - our culture), and Paris and France, in particular.

I agree but then I don’t. It’s a hard one. Take the image below, how many of them people are dying of starvation or have no home for the night, I’ll guess none.
A physical object whether a wedding ring or a famous old church is only of use if you have the wealth to enjoy them. If your starving you can always sell the wedding ring to feed yourself, whereas the church with all it’s beauty and history, will have no significance to yourself if your cold, wet and hungry.

Unless the rich * that own it turn it into a homeless shelter :fear:

At the end of the day, it's only bricks and mortar.
Wouldn't have made one iota to my life if it had crumbled into dust.

Read recently the building was in need of 150 million pounds worth of refurbishment before the fire. Mental how these things work themselves out.

I don’t think any building on the planet is more valuable than people’s lives.

Do we have to choose one or the other now?

The outrage here is unbridled capitalism, not the restoration of one of the most important artefacts in our collective history.

What action have the people who are now sharing memes about the Grenfell Tower fire, the Flint water crisis, or even the plight of the polar bear, taken to redress those problems?

I have heard the same mock outrage from anti-immigrant objectors - people who would cross the street if they were to see a homeless person in front of them - with regard to homelessness.
