A sheriff has deserted the trial of nine Celtic fans charged with hanging effigies at an Old Firm match.

Sheriff Allan Findlay hit out at prosecutors for not giving defence lawyers "full disclosure" of available evidence.

The supporters were charged following a league match at Parkhead in September 2016, which Celtic won 5-1.

The accusations centred on effigies and a banner hung at the game and were said to be "threatening and offensive".

Seven hearings had taken place before the case called before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

But after a two-year wait the Crown gave defence lawyers a version edited by police of what was deemed to be relevant to the case.

Lawyers successfully argued that they did not have all the material that was available and made a motion for the case to be deserted.

There was edited material from a number of computer disks and USB sticks.

Sheriff Findlay said: "The Crown have taken the view that they are going to rely on police evidence.

    "I don't know what's on the disks.

"For the life of me I cannot understand why the Crown simply didn't disclose this stuff to the defence."

    Shocking.

Anyone who even remotely defends that abomination of an act and the harassment of our fans has no business calling themselves a Celtic supporter.

Cops should turn their backs to the crowd. Celtic fans don’t have too bad a behaviour problem. They just have serious issues of Our Republicanism. They should be concentrating what’s happening on the pitch because Fridays game was * criminal.

    * nonsense. Meanwhile instead of defending our own supporters, the Tory * on our board are actually giving the Police the go-ahead to do more. Scum.

Court punishes police for incorrect reporting Celtic supporters

On 6 November 2013 police officers made incorrect official reports during the course of football riots on the Dam against three Celtic supporters.

The Scottish supporters were later sentenced to prison sentences of one to two months on the basis of this reporting of the agents.

Only on appeal did images of the events appear. According to the court in Amsterdam, this shows that 'the core of the accusations against the suspects is not in line with the truth'. Those omissions are so serious that the court has declared the Public Prosecution Service (OM) for this reason inadmissible on Friday. This means that the Public Prosecution Service can not prosecute in this case.

There was no other evidence on this issue. The verbalisants were agents who themselves were victims or witnesses of throwing things to the police units and physical violence against the agents. Exactly what has been incorrectly translated, a spokesperson for the court could not say. The judgment will only become public later.

    Incorrect reporting
The court understands that at certain moments there may be chaotic and dangerous circumstances for the police, but states that it is nevertheless of 'crucial importance' that they make a proper reporting of the events. According to the court, the consequences for the three suspects have been considerable. They have been detained for a short time.

In this higher professional case, five suspects were involved. One of them was acquitted on Friday and another was convicted.

Well done to all the victims of this miscarriage of justice in Amsterdam . It can never be easy to continue the struggle against a foreign police force , the costs , the hassle and the long drawn out process would see many people just give up the case . I noticed that the Scottish press were ultra keen to report the charges at the time , I wonder if their biased rags will carry this news with the same vigour . And give it equal prominence as 5 years ago ? I somehow imagine not !

Ya dancer! Only by 2 votes wow but still, that's it thrown out aye? Who's James Kelly? I just remember the lassie and the guy at the meeting Kenny McKaskill lost the plot. Is it Paul Larkin and Jeanette Finlay? They were fantastic when they stated the case, so calm and eloquent.

See the hoarding of folk in the Janesfield tunnel for instance, I can't help feeling mistrust and thinking I bet the cops want to raise tempers here so something kicks off.

Edit: Just seen the rest of it, polis typically lying because they're the only ones who need to write a witness report. Notice as 11.05 it says 'having to manage Crow.' o_O

Well out of order the whole thing, especially as that tunnel isn't exactly a small space, there's always loads of room to walk up that or at least walk with the crowd leaving with enough personal space to not even notice it.

Sunday Herald have totally turned into a rag for sure now, seen a bit of it last week but coming out with statements like that is ridiculous.

Well done to all the folk who have stood up for the fans and held steady on the long road to justice cause it can't have been easy for them imagining the hassle they received.
