This morning on a fine walk with Ruby Boxer i noted a cool flock of 12 Golden Plover feeding with 40 Lapwing on a Pasture field just a couple of minutes from my house:lol:. Every so often they get disturbed by a raptor or some potential danger and off they all go and re group. The lovely calls of the Golden Plover are a marvel.
Also on this walk my first Sparrowhawk of the year noted and a hunting Kestrel.

Very quiet on my local patch at the moment, but 15 Red Breasted Mergansers are close to the shore in my local bay at the moment,8 females and 7 males.
If the weather holds i may go to a classic Wooded Valley on Thursday in search of Goshawk.

Ye ever hear tale of the elephant from Belfast zoo. During the * bombings a load of animals were shot in the zoo but some woman in north Belfast looked after this one in her house.

Never been myself but my son has. Berlin has a park in the centre of town, and my son went a walk through it . He told me he saw lots of "Big Birds, might have been birds of prey". He should me the photos he took, and ,my * he was right. Lots of Goshawks, in the city centre. He's not a birding type of guy, so they were just "Big Birds" to him. Berlin is now, even more so, on my bucket list. Not only for the history, but the birding as well.
Talking of birds of prey, I saw a superb, light coloured Buzzard this morning sit on a bridge in Carntyne. Shame I was driving, and in a hurry or I would have stopped for a better look. Also saw a superb Kestrel this morning.

I saw a Buzzard perched on a telephone wire as I drove home after work . They seem a very common sight nowadays .

Well i went to that classic Wooded Valley today,up at 5am,so a serious day out, just got back really,i nailed great views of a fly past male Goshawk to my and my Nephew's delight.Shortly after a cool Male Peregrine was noted, then a bit later on a very brief view of a female Goshawk, cool! I know roughly where the nest is.
Then after a bit of long walk,Ruby Boxer with us of course,we dropped down to the nearby village, had lunch at the cool River and then after looked and nailed a brilliant lengthy view of a Kingfisher, mmy nephew's first ever, yes he had a good day indeed as did i and Ruby Boxer!!

Sounds like a superb day good friend. I love
getting up at ridiculous hours in the morning just for a bit of birdwatching. Best part of the day.
