Celtic announce huge half-year profit despite missing out on Champions League riches
The record sale of Moussa Dembele has softened the blow of missing out on the lucrative group stage.

Celtic have posted a hefty half-year profit despite missing out on the lucrative Champions League cash pot.

The Scottish Premiership champions have released their six-monthly interim report that includes to the end of December 2018.

Revenue has fallen to £50million, down from the £71.5m recorded in 2017 after they were unable to reach the group stage.

However, Celtic have still managed to record a massive £18.8m pre-tax profit over the past six months.

The loss of Champions League revenue has been softened by a £17.6m profit from transfers that includes a club record fee received from Lyon for Moussa Dembele.

The Ligue 1 giants paid a single figure of £19.8m for the striker in August 2018.

Chairman Ian Bankier acknowledged the revenue dip from being unable to dine at Europe's top table this term but still described the results as "highly satisfactory".

He said: "These results reflect the absence of substantial UEFA Champions League revenues in comparison to the same period last year.

But they are counter-balanced by the benefit of player trading, significantly by the permanent transfer of the registration of Moussa Dembele to Olympique Lyonnais.

"The profit on disposals of intangible assets of £17.6m (2017: £0.5m) largely represents this sale. Our period end net cash at bank, as indicated above, was highly satisfactory.

"We also enjoyed exceptionally strong trading across all of our commercial bases, including match day sales, hospitality and merchandise."

Should be no excuses in the window there either tbh! That’s without the Uefa money also! So just goes to show the importance of making the UCL every 2-3 out of 5 years!

So we paid £2.2m in fees for Benkovic, Izzy, mulumbu! Most of that was probably the loan fee for benkovic

    No...

Since the balance sheet date we have secured the permanent registrations of Emilio Izaguirre and Youssouf Mulumbu in addition to the temporary transfers of Daniel Arzani and Filip Benkovic. Further expenditure of £1.63m has been committed in acquiring these player registration

Profit on disposal of intangible assets means how much we got minus what it cost us to get them. So if we had to pay Dembele a £1million signing bonus and sold him for £20million then the profit made on him was £19million.

£1.63m that’s pennies for us tbh. Wonder what we spent in January window. We know £3.8m for Bayo and Shevd

If I remember correctly I think we paid him a significant amount that time! But some profit regardless!

Disgraceful behaviour in last 2 transfer windows looking at our balance then.

Thing is there can't be sales like Dembele if we don't buy players. We could bought Benkovic last season but shat it and now probably paying anything up to 2 mil for a * loan

We’ve obviously known all year we were gonna get Burke, Weah and Toljan on loan and we’ve just been saving to buy them outright. :fear:

We owed £6.4million in a loan as of August which we are paying down over 5 years so, as f January we might have owed £5.8million still also, im not that knowledgable about accounting but I think having an overdraft counts as a debt also even if you have no used it? ours is £2million and we never do use it but I think it does count as £2million debt.

So really it means we have £7.8million more cash than that which would take it up to £46.4million in the bank.

The thing below that they say "debt and debt like items" shouldn't even be mentioned as it's a lot of * really and I think they only include that as a "highlight" now to make it look like we have less money. It's impossible to know what they count in that but i'd bet they deduct more money than they add on since they can say what they want.

if we had beat the huns very few signings if any would have came into the club imo

i think the uproar amongst the fans after that result and the back lash they got forced their hand but still 3 of the signings are loans, so back to scratch come the summer for them tight arses and us

what would you rather have , try scout and unearth some players at 2-3m each permanent , or loan in 3 or 4 who are worth 10-20m each.

you need the right level of investment permanents and loans, but there is also a fact we have multi million assets tied down on 5 year deals now if we ever came to sell another player, Tierney,Rogic,McGregor,Ntcham,Forrest,Edouard,Christie, and we just invested in Bayo and Shved who knows how good they are going to be ?

why 2-3m why not 5 to 10m but yeah i'd always go with buying our own first were no a charity case ffs

you trying to say weah and toljan are between 10 to 20m worth ?

burkes been bought for upwards of#15m twice and watching him for us you can definitely see his attributes and why clubs think he is worth that, hes got lots of natural talent and strong and pacey and scores goals

toljan is 3 or 4th choice right back at dortmund hes not a 10m player

and weah hasnt a hope of getting into that psg team hes a prospect hes looked no bad i'll say that but i dont think hes gonna be a 10 to 20 million pound player

Benkovic went for 13m last summer,Burkes went for 30m last 2 transfers combined , Weah wont come cheap and Toljan was 7m from Hoffenheim.
