Good news that we are investing in the squad , Hopefully the new players will be first team regulars and not just squad players .
Time to get rid of some of the squad players and reduce the deadwood.

Know nothing about him but is the American Colleage league any different to Scottish Junior football?

Plus point is he knows how to play on a 4G pitch.

All I can think about this transfer is RAW.

He was playing college football because he was in college; it is no reflection of his current or potential ability.

It’s a lot better than junior football.

This is where the next wave of MLS talent comes from through the draft.

I don’t understand it fully but it looks as though teams can have the “rights” to players and they bypass the draft and go into a team. Chicago Fire has his rights, the MLS wanted to buy his rights so he’d of entered the draft. We’ve essentially poached him.

If anyone can confirm that plz.

I do agree with you actually and the standard of the MLS is way better than it used to be. I still won't watch it, but it's better.

I'm pretty sure "rights" mean he has already been drafted by the Fire. Once a team has the "rights" to a given player, he cannot sign for any other team in the league. Players can be drafted by an MLS team before they graduate as well. Teams outside the league can still make contact and offer contracts. I think that's how it works. So yes, we've essentially poached him from the Chicago Fire.

I have * all interest in it, but that's the case with most football these days! I just we are too quick to write everyone and everything off because of its history.
We cannot compete with mad money around the top leagues. As much as I hate Salzburg and their ownership model, they have a budget similar enough to ours, pay transfer fees we can afford, yet they seem to have a far better scouting system. We had similar ourselves a few years back! We need to explore every avenue and, in theory, America makes a lot of sense.

Don’t Salzburg sign a lot of players from countries where we would struggle to get work permits? Like the best player on the park for them at Paradise was that Samassekou and I’m sure they signed him from some African club. Same with that Haidara. Also that wee Minamino was bought from the J-league and I’m sure we need permits from there too don’t we? Definitely agree that we need a better scouting system though.

I didn't mean to copy their practice completely, more use it as a rough guideline. There are places and markets we aren't scouting that we should be, in the way Diabetes FC are, seemingly, fully exploiting theirs.

Definitely similar leagues to ours round Europe we should be exploiting. Croatian and Danish leagues have excellent talent kicking about.

Know a lad that was brought over on a scholarship to captain a team in the same league. Irish underage international. Made the move when couldnt get a game in the league of ireland top tier.

Would say most players hes playing with are on par with our third tier ifbecen. No different to any other American college sport. Some standouts amongst people just playing to get an education.

22 years old for the development squad? I would see the point if he was only 16-17.

Underwhelming if I’m honest but only
    Time will tell.

    Is it a lot better?

I mean, most of the players don’t even make the MLS it’s like any other American sport the top 1% or so make the draft the other get a degree if their good enough with studying.

My wee cousin got a scholarship with UCLA a few years back played and got a degree and is now living out there.

He played with a local team in LA for fun after colleage but did say the standard is not very high he done well staying till he was 23 playing before he left.

This player maybe a late bloomer, I don’t know but I’m not going to hold my breath if we have just signed him for the development squad.

Nah he’s not been drafted. If they declare for the draft before they graduate then they are going to play in the MLS before they graduate.

He played for Chicago Fires youth, so it’s some kind of homegrown contract.
