China certainly is, although I am not sure how much longer that the term 'sleeping' can be used. The interest in the game is huge, and growing, the money is huge, most teams are linked to businesses with very deep pockets and are using the sport to garner publicity for their businesses. On top of that, the attendances in their Superleague are massive too. When you compare to how quickly the game grew in Japan, albeit they had a higher starting base, and with even more money and a bigger population, it is almost inevitable they will become a force in the foreseeable future.
Interest in India in the IPL and more specifically the EPL is quite big, I think they have a bit to go to even be sleeping giants. The potential is there though.

I wouldn't be so dismissive of 'soccer' in the USA either, it is easy to do so, especially given their bizarre phraseology and cultural preferences for their 'big four' sports, but in spite of that they have developed the game well and in their own way.
Sure, they missed out on the last World Cup due to bad management, but there is no doubt that they are producing plenty of players and while I don't follow the MLS, I believe that the interest and standard has risen.
Given the Irish and Scottish diaspora in the USA and the supposed standard in the colleges there, not to mention the fact they will be well educated and therefore possibly easier to man-manage, it makes complete sense to be exploiting this market.

Pulisic moving to Chelsea for such big money has probably sparked an interest over there as well.

CELTIC have agreed a deal to sign American full-back Andrew Gutman.

The 22-year-old was on trial with Rangers in December but will move to Parkhead this month once a work permit has been secured.

The Chicago Fire starlet, who impressed playing college football with Indiana Hossiers, has caught the eye of several European scouts.

But SunSport Online understands Brendan Rodgers has won the race for his signature.

Last night, Gutman fuelled speculation over his future by following Celtic on Twitter.

He spent time training at the Hummel Training Centre last month

Sounds like another who will never get anywhere near the first team.

Really hoped all the signings would be players that could make a difference to the 1st team, far too many prospects and projects that just haven't worked out.

As much as I agree we should be targetting players to come in and make a difference. We'd be silly not to take on a player who seems to be regarded as the best player in the American College system, with the awards to back it up. Especially for what is probably a nominal fee and in a position we need cover
