9 million for Edouard and about half that for Ntcham: you don't think that if they had proved bad investments à la Rafael Scheidt that kind of wasted money wouldn't set us back years?

We had a totally different model back then. Now we rely very much on buying young talent, developing them and selling them on for a profit. A couple of bad investments would send us right back to where we started under Lenny.

To be fair its bad investment that's set us back already, to the point of being level with a poor hun side. Who knows what further poor recruitment could do to us.

I'd say it's lack of investment, not bad investment.

We have a core of a squad that’s going to be the best in Scotland, even including the players we’ve signed that haven’t worked out. One transfer window can transfigure a club’s fortunes. I can’t see any logical reasoning that dictates how a couple of bad signings will set us back “years”.

CELTIC have signed Scottish internationalist, Oliver Burke, on loan from West Bromwich Albion until the end of this season, subject to a medical.

The 21-year-old winger started his career with Nottingham Forest before he moved to RB Leipzig in August 2016. A year later, he returned to England, signing for West Brom. He has made 21 appearances for the Championship side, scoring one goal, which came this season in the EFL Cup against Luton Town.

He has also been capped five times by Scotland, making his international debut against Denmark in March 2016.

Oliver will join up with Brendan Rodgers' squad this week for their winter training camp in Dubai.

Because as far as I understand it, we largely reinvest the money we make. If we fritter that away (and 13 million is a lot!), we will have less to invest. If you look at how the kind of fees we were paying under Lenny (i.e. what we were able to invest back then), it was nothing like the kind of investments we made in Ntcham and Edouard. I remember back then some of us were complaining that, if we were going to follow the Porto/Ajaz/Benfica model, when were we going to reach the stage of buying for 10m and selling for 20 instead of buying for 2 or 3m and selling for 10.

Well, we're there now! The money is there for these kind of investments and I don't want to see us go back to looking shopping exclusively in the bargain basement (I say "exclusively", because hopefully we are still looking for the underrated Wanyamas of this world).

That still doesn’t explain what would set us back years. We’re still going to challenge for trophies and we’re still going to be in with a good chance of Euro qualification.

Has to be up there with one of our most pointless signings.

I just wish him the best. Good luck to him. I admit he isn't what I wanted but I'll judge at the end of the season

Dunno what to think of this really?

    Quite obviously a short-term "solution".

Decent player with a bit of potential - like the fact that he's a big lump of a boy who will drive at defences, whether or not his level of footballing brain will do anything at the end of it remains to be seen.

The lad will get my support, but by * this board/management/scouting better come up with something better soon or I think I'll flip ma lid...
