Drones Causing Chaos At Gatwick Airport

Yes flights have almost completly suspended since 9pm last night,because of 2 Drones that keep appearing over the Runway,infact the Airport is totally out of action as we speak and could be for the rest of the day!
Police said they could not shoot them down because of the danger of deflecting bullets.As yet nobody has any idea who is responsible,could be interesting,is it stupid members of the public or something more sinister??
So tens of thousands of people have big problems getting from A to B.Not the kind of delay that people would expect and a massive pain in the * to say the least.

 

Drones are a bastarding nuisance .
There should be some form of license required to own one of these perverted things.

 

Agreed a couple of times this summer some cocky .unt was flying one over my area,right over gardens,horrible things when used like this.When dickheads get hold of devices there is always problems,remember Laser Pens,the amount od dickheads that got hold of them!

 

Should ban the sale of them and jail the scum who use them near airports.
Also fine them the cost of having to transport all the passengers to their destinations because of flight cancellations.

 

There was one in my mums garden at the weekend no one has claimed it yet, he/she must of crashed it, she thought it was a bird caught in the bushes

You’re not allowed to fly them in residential areas. No wonder it hasn’t been claimed.

If I were one of the passengers at Gatwick today, I’d be absolutely livid. Delayed and cancelled flights are a nightmare.

 

Folk speculating this is far more than yer ‘off the shelf’ drone.

Saw on BBC site that a flight diverted to Birmingham (I think) got in around 945pm last night and was still there at 4am this morning with passengers not allowed to leave the plane.

If they've moved the flight to Birmingham, what's the issue with keeping them on the plane? Not heard anything relating to Birmingham being closed. Surely let the people off the plane. Put on some buses to take them back to Gatwick/London!

Or at worse, off the plane and let them roam the airport for food and water.

There probably aren’t available facilities to disembark.

 

For an hour I could buy that, but over 6 hours at least? Surely they could find a stair car somewhere? Or tell one flight to do a 20minute loop of the city while they disembark the stranded flight.
One flight delayed 20 minutes is less of an inconvenience surely than a flight full for 6 hours with no food or water.

Whenever they catch this wee * hopefully a decent prison sentence is dished out.

This has at least highlighted the potential carnage a drone can cause, imagine if some * deliberately flew a drone into a plane as it was taking off or landing ..

 

A terrorist could easily strap an explosive device on to one and bring the planes down, scary to think how easy it could be

Aye I dont know if you have seen the section on the news today that shows a drone flying/being hit by a planes wing .. the drone disappears right into the wing which, I assume most people know, is usually the location of the fuel tanks .. So explosives wouldn't even be needed, although a drone flying into a packed shopping street with a bomb is something that might happen sooner rather than later.

 

Or into a packed stadium, after the first drone sale * would of thought of that straight away, * thats there main purpose for the military, its a wonder they weren't banned on day one without some type of licence

Yes i saw that,it causes big concern,there needs to be a lot of planning in place to bring down drones flown by idiots,big punishment for being flown in dangerous places,yes very stiff jail terms.Maybe all owners should have a Drone Licence or something,with big fines for people who fly them without.

 

The rebel in me says you have to laugh at this

Could you imagine they done Heathrow,Stansted,city of London and Luton at the same time

Spend billions on defence systems and a few toys at 100 notes a pop can bring the south to a standstill
