    I don’t really pay attention to it tbf mate, people seem to get up and arms on both sides and I just continue to do my own thing and it doesn’t seem to effect me :56:

    Me neither mate, but whenever I see * like this I have to laugh.

    It generally seems to be more people offended on behalf of the people who are supposed to be offended doing all the shouting.

    If you know a word is bothersome to a fair number of people, like * is, then don't use it. Its not difficult

    * off.

    Loads of folk don't like the word "*" but it's a part of my everyday vocabulary.

    Anycunt doesn't like it, then they can * off.

    Aye well thats not a word used as an insult toward a specific group of people and is widely accepted in the west of Scotland. Its not really the same. But a word being part of your vocabulary isn't good reason for it being okay to say. I'm sure BNP members are liberal with the word *. Doesn't make it okay

    Well I've not really kept up with the thread. Just waded in ignorantly. But still generally speaking I don't think its a difficult thing to not say something that you know offends a specific group of people

    That's true, but there's always going to be someone offended by something.

    That's not to say that some things AREN'T offensive, but we're living in the Age of Offence.

    But the song is 30 years old and generally seen as one of the best Christmas songs ever. I was thinking about this the other day when watching OFAH and they missed out some of the script. This again was something that was hugely popular at the time and broadcast on prime time BBC. Therefore the fact it was broadcast ( with I presume very little condemnation) at the time would suggest it was a reflection of society at the time. For me I think there is a difference between writing songs or scripts in 2018 that are offensive and re-writing history to try and pretend these songs and programmes weren't representative of the times they are originally from.

    Yeah I fully agree, people are too easily offended, but sometimes its justified.

    Aye as I said I didn't read the thread before wading in. I like that song. It doesnt bother me. I can see why its offensive to people nowadays but I agree that they shouldn't re-write history. But maybe they like to, to cover their ignorance back then
