    Exactly why education is necessary.

I * hate the "well I choose to identify as a flying saucer!!" *, repetitive joke at this point. Incredibly rare individiuals, one in a billion people genuinely claim anything like that.

The issue is people born genetically as men wishing to identify as women and vice versa, or swapping between identifying as the two. Not only is the whole "well I'm identifying as a dish cloth haha!" joke completely beat out, it's also pretty much absolutely nothing to do with the predominant issue.

Away you go Dev man - Everyone knows you pay tax on your income, that VAT is added to most things, so that's simple enough. The more specialised things like the tax treatment of VCTs/EIS's, for example, we don't need to be teaching kids anyway. Most people will have a mortgage/car loan etc and therefore will know they are charged interest and at what rate.
Finally people surely know/understand that if you don't maintain your agreed credit payments then you will obviously struggle to get future credit and be penalised for breaking the contract.
If we honestly need schools to be teaching these basic things then we really are * as a society mate.

That's such bullshit, though. You see that opinion CONSTANTLY. Transgender people have to hear that opinion every day. Any article, discussion or debate around gender identification has that opinion brought up repeatedly. How are you "not allowed" to have that opinion?

I really disagree mate, maybe it’s because I came out of school fresh in 2005 and turned 18 in 2007 where everything was getting flung about and banks were confusing you like * to get as much credit as possible. Can mind walking in to open a savings account and left with 3 credit cards and no saving account. Had no * clue back then and loads of my friends were the same.

Teaching people the difference between self employed, PAYE, going under umbrella companies...

What APR is, interest rates, savings etc etc. would be * unreal and all stuff I think should be introduced.

But then you may be out a job so I get your point of view :56:

    Why?

So everyone can live in CandyLand where the streets are paved with Smarties and children swing on trees from rope made of Liquorice?

Every * and their dug is looking to be offended at something these days, or needs to be labelled this that and the next thing.

Snowflakes are just about the right word....

    Candyland sounds class. :giggle1:

No-one should walk around looking to get offended, but I don't think anyone should have free reign to be derogatory about whomever they please, that's called bullying.

    This.

I work with a girl who's favourite line is "Sorry, but I just say it how it is." Naw, you're just acting the *. Calling yourself a straight talker doesn't give you carte blanche to be an * to people.

With the exception of working under different companies all of the above can be dealt with by parents/guardians.
Dev when you have kids you will be able to pass on this basic information, that is all that is needed for school kids - Obviously if kids are looking at careers in finance then that is a different matter but by that age (14/15) they should all have a basic understanding of who pays tax, difference between self-employed/employed, basic bank accounts, credit cards etc.

While I know you are having a joke here mate but the reality, without getting into this in great detail, is I have a duty of care towards any client I advise. I can honestly say if I was talking to a client, who wanted to invest, but didn't know about the basics that we are discussing here - tax, interest rates etc - I would simply refuse to take them on as a client, as I would not be convinced they understood enough for them to make an informed choice based on my recommendation/s.

We’ll agree to disagree mate, basic finance is something that’s too important and should be taught in schools in preperation of * life.

Maybe it’s just different circles we move in but the majority of people I know have no clue about this sort of stuff. It’s been learning through trial and error. Guys like Martin Lewis is making a fortune off educating people about financial pitfalls and what to do for a reason and it’s that most people have no clue about it.

I don't disagree about finance being taught. The part we seem to disagree on is the level it's needed at, before it's the schools responsibility. I just can't see how the average parent can't manage with what we have been discussing.

Anyway don't get me started on Lewis :giggle1:

It might be different now but there was no basic personal finance taught when I was in school and it pretty much * me up when I left. Now that may be on my Mum and Dad but tbh, they’re not too * clued up about that either. That’s the situation of most people I know.

Do you not like Lewis? *’s helped me out a fuckload when I finally decided to take my head out the sand :56:

I left school in 2000 and we definitely got taught about APR and * in a Maths lesson in about 3rd year I think. There was a couple pages worth of exercises in the Maths in Action book! :56:

My folks both worked in banks, insurance and finance * and constantly told me about credit and to keep my rating good and I still managed to make a total * of that in my twenties.

Its brought up repeatedly because its true. Now think about this for a sec, how in the name of good * are all these beings coming out of the wood work now. Man has * up the natural evolution of us humans and with everything i mentioned before and more, these are the type of humans that are getting born. Their brains are damaged, some beyond repair, some can be healed. I dont give a flying * who says any different, its what i believe in. Do you honestly think that nature in its purest form produces multiple genders. Not a * chance! There is man, there is women. Man * women and creates a new born which should either be a male, or female! I would class a transgender in the same bracket as a man wanting to wear a nappy and sleep in a cot sucking a dummy. Theres something seriously wrong with them imho. Do i give a *, tbh not really. As long as they dont harm anyone while they go through life in this * up way then i honestly dont give a flying *. But all im saying is, somewhere along the lines from the cell broke into the egg, something has went wrong. It could be toxins from the parents or it could be even the environment they grew up in, and how they react to it is whats caused this *. It is not a natural process.
