Scotland will become the first country in the world to embed the teaching of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex rights in the school curriculum, in what campaigners have described as a historic moment.

State schools will be required to teach pupils about the history of LGBTI equalities and movements, as well as tackling homophobia and transphobia and exploring LGBTI identity, after ministers accepted in full the recommendations of a working group led by the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaign. There will be no exemptions or opt-outs to the policy, which will embed LGBTI inclusive education across the curriculum and across subjects and which the Scottish government believes is a world first.”

    Fair play.

Hopefully this will go some way to making LGBT pupils feel less marginalised in the school setting. I’m not gay myself but I know many found coming to terms with their sexuality difficult, not just because of potentially conservative parents at home, but because they worried about bullying and alienation in school too.

Absolute scenes when they have added every single letter of the alphabet after ‘LGBT’.

So, what are they going to do about the parents who will refuse to allow their kids to be taught about that.
Are they going to punish them.
Are they going to use this against Catholic schools who refuse to teach it due to their religious beliefs.

Being educated about it young, will help shape more positive attitudes towards LGBT people. Says in that article that 9 out of 10 LGBT people face homophobia in schools, so improving attitudes towards it is a good thing.

    People are strange.

Yes let’s educate our kids more and give them more knowledge on how to deal with issues that they will encounter in life.

And this is a bad thing to some?

I never said it mattered, it's a genuine question.

Also if that's the case why label lesbians differently. Surely if your GAY, then it doesn't matter if that's male/male or female/female.....if gay means you prefer the same * partner then why are females not also called gays.

‘There will be no exemptions or opt outs to the Policy.’

    Draconian.
