I thought that my eyes were playing tricks on me today . When I parked on arriving home , I saw a Magpie . So what you'll likely be thinking . I have lived here for my 50 plus years , and that's the first ever sighting of a Magpie in my home town that I've seen . I live in Perthshire .

Yes i get it,Magpies are common in the central belt of Scotland, but elsewhere somewhat local to scarce, very scarce and rare.I have been to Speyside on many an occasion and have still not seen a Magpie.

6 Whooper Swans flew over my local patch mid morning today with their full of atmosphere honking call, fantastic.Infact one lagged behind a bit and called louder than the others, appeared to be saying "Wait For Me,Wait For Me!" They seemed to slow down as they turned and all 6 were soon together.

Thousands of filthy animals spotted at Murrayfield today. 3 goals from the good ghuys scared them off and they headed home disappointed.

I reckon this stunning bird stopped on Fair Island to try and see the Celtic Game, thought it was Lerwick:56:

That's great news mate. Hopefully another 'Waxwing Winter' like we had a few years ago. My daughter and I were walking around looking at every berry tree, every small flock of birds hoping to see them. We were lucky on numerous ocassions.

Yesterday a Grey Heron and a Little Egret were close to each other feeding on my local beach,30 years a ago the Little Egret was a true rarity. Also yesterday a flock of 20 Lapwing were noted on a local large field.
This morning a splendid female Merlin flew over my local patch, always a joy,it was an Icelandic bird, slightly bigger than ours. Also 2 cool bright male Bullfinchs noted and a female Sparrowhawk being mobbed by a Carrion Crow.

I was walking out my door this morning, and got ATTACKED, yes,ATTACKED, by the biggest Red Admiral butterfly you've ever seen. What made it worse was the fits of laughter my wife was in. She didn't even attempt to help me. All I got was,"Grow up ya big baby, it's only a butterfly, and it's NOT a monster". Took me a while to calm down.
On a brighter note, I also witnessed a squabble between a Tree Sparrow, a Wren and a couple of House Sparrows while I was picking my daughter up from work. The House Sparrows won the squabble fairly easily. Great to watch mind you.

Just got in from the old local could hear a couple of Redwing overhead, talking of Redwing i had a lovely view of this handsome little Thrush in a sizable tree next to a pair of Mistle Thrushes on my local patch this morning. Also seen on that outing with my usual partner in crime Ruby Boxer(the brains of the outfit) 2 Sparrowhawks,a Brambling and a mega close up of a Treecreeper.
Oh yesterday a Grey Heron flew quite low over my house croaking.
