He was a lot more consistent than boyata and jozo imo, he still had a blunder in him as well but overall I thought he was solid enough. * on the ball but could actually defend (unlike hendry who can do neither). As much as boyata has improved, I'm still not convinced by him.

I agree with @freitassen that of he'd had a good run in the team last season he could've regained that form of the invincible season and won his place back - maybe he just didn't do enough in training but he was no worse than what we have now for me.

As was Jozo. Who’s chucked it no. Erik done the same well before him.

Which is a problem in itself now I think about it, cos Boyata’s now done the same.

Ones a core invincible the others won 1 game hes started. Miles between them.

He just didnt have the pace to combat being regurarly exposed on the break in a Rodgers system.

Wrong. It’s not absence my friend. I have always maintained Erik was our best centre half. Especially at the time when many thought Simunovic was the holy grail based on sweet * all.

Erik was our best centre half and arguably one of our best players under Ronny.

Erik was at no point as much as a bombscare or liability as Boyata or Simunovic.

Boyata is a far superior centre half than Sviatchenko, in every single possible way.

His positional sense was poor too, which made him commit needless fouls in dangerous areas.

The current crop of centerbacks has really lowered our expectations imo. Sviatchenko is better than hendry and simunovic but if he was still here i'd still be saying we should punt him. At least Hendry and Simunovic have some pace about them, Sviatchenko was Scott Mckenna slow.

    * man. That’s a hard statement to see.

Just watch Ronny’s last game against the Huns. Horrid result. But tell me who was a bombscare and who held the team together. Boyata threw in the towel. A player with a weak mentality and even weaker footballing ability.

Erik showed for a full season that he could have been a massive player for us. He held the team together at points. A natural leader. He did that across a full season.

What can be said for any of the other centre backs? They aren’t consistent for 2 weeks let alone a full season.

Marc Crosas is a cult hero mate, doesn’t mean he was an exceptional player.

I would love the big lad still to be here. Yes he had a bad run in CL qualifying but he was the man who sorted the defence that was dire under Ronnie. Still speaks well of us on instagram and still in touch with all our bhoys.

Sick of seeing this thread bumped. Not good enough and was rightly moved on.

But the full fact that we do actually miss him and at this point that looks like a mistake infuriates me.

I dont miss him. Even when we were invincible and he played, CB was still the area we needed to improve on most to go to another level.
Im just not having him mentioned next to Jack Hendry
