I'm going to predict Germany will win it. The depth of quality in their squad is hard to match, though the likes of Brazil and France have a good chance too. France don't appear, from the outside at least, to function as well as a unit like Germany do. Brazil are immensely talented and I reckon they'll reach the latter stages. Germany's average squad age is just over a year older than France, which shows they have more experience and many of their players have that winning mentality.

Spain have a similar level of quality to those above but sacking their manager will likely impact them. Hard to predict how the team will react.

Portugal, not strong enough overall and Ronaldo is past his peak. Still a great goalscorer and I expect them to qualify from their group with Spain, but can see them going out in the last 16 or quarter finals, depending on the draw.

Argentina, so much pressure on them because it's Messi's last realistic chance to win a World Cup, but I don't think they're strong enough overall. Struggled in qualifying, finishing behind Uruguay and Brazil and there was a period where it looked like they wouldn't make it. Naturally, teams will double and triple up on Messi to try and diminish his influence, but with it being Messi, he could use that to his advantage.

England don't have a chance of winning it, in my opinion. The level of quality in their squad is no-where near what they had back at the start of the century, but if they can supply Vardy and Kane, they may surprise a few people. The lowered expectations and self belief within their squad could help them.

Belgium are perennial dark horses, but they have some amazing quality in their squad, alongside Boyata. If Kompany isn't fit to start their matches then Boyata could very well be a weak link for them, though I hope he isn't.

Same, I was going to pick them as they have goals in them, quite hard working players and good players all over the park. But when I thought who would beat them I decided Germany would probably be too tactically clever and beat them.

Spain I think can struggle with a plan B or a bit of pace to break teams down, France seem a wee bit unpredictable they should beat most teams but they don't seem as consistent and out the Top 4 teams you'd probably think they are the ones most likely to be shocked an knocked out by a lesser team.

Portugal, Belgium and Argentina shouldn't really have a chance, Portugal and Argentina are too weak overall really especially Argentina despite having Messi and Belgium might be a dark horse but I think are similar to France where they're not as steady as other teams and they are weaker than France.

If the top seeds win their groups then you're looking at Brazil only having France & Belgium as serious threats, maybe Uruguay. Both France & Belgium have serious questions about their coach & squad unity.
Germany end up on the same side as Argentina, Spain & the Poland/Colombia group winner.

Brazil - Germany final with Brazil pipping them due to the easier route.

If you follow the potential knockout fixtures the order of Group 1 (Russia/Uruguay), 2 (Spain/Portugal) & 8 (Poland/Columbia) could have a big impact. Brazil could really end up with a very handy draw.

Brazil probably have the best chance since 2002 and 06 (although by the latter most of the big hitters were declining).

The one thing putting me off is the fact it's a European world cup but think that's just me being superstitious.

Germany I just can't see them winning it back to back.

France would be my next favourites. I'd say they are strong right across the park much like Brazil but I would definitely agree with you in regards to their mentality. Not sure if they've got the bottle.

I've thought it'd be Brazil for quite some time now, and my opinion hasn't changed. Germany are their main rivals imo, but I just can't see them winning it twice in a row.

Germany won in South America so Brazil could win in Europe.

Brazil really hitting form. Played Chile, Russia, Germany, Croatia, Austria in their past 5 games and scored 12, conceding none.

No real * teams as well, all solid and WC standard teams at the least.

I've voted Germany, but Brazil is the other. I do think France might be a danger too.

Spain were a decent shout but after the cluster * today, no chance, they'll bomb.
