DIY Help Chimney Lintel Advice

Hehe I don't really have the skill/ability to do the alternate way you mention. My plan is to cut away that section and pack with a bit of scrap gyprock I have kept from boxed in chimney. Then get the wall skimmed. I'll see how it goes and if the flats faw doon I'll blame Lion

I also don't have transport for the timber or gyprock.

 

Just leave as is, and pap a big potted flower in there.
Or put the telly in front of it, sit doon and have a few beers.
And if your missus or burd start to moan, toss her the hammer and chisel and tell her to do it here * self

I got the back boiler out and had a look, the lintel was very thin but I looked up inside and noticed a second lintel. I then shat it when a large chunk broke away exposing the internal strengthening bars. I am abandoning this and going with the framing and bringing the wall out 2 inch. Need to see about paying extra for delivery. Cannae be * with this

 

Looks to me like you could just remove that lintel tbh, cut the brick back and you can make your own thinner lintel to fit in rather than trying to cut the one thats there, it will be easy to take that one out and easy to make a small thin one to put in and do what you originally planned.

 

I had an idea I could get away with it but I just didn't want to risk it. I don't really have a lot of experience with DIY stuff.

 

Done, just needing a skim. Thoughts on a vent? Is it a must?
