He's right footed and a right back.

Matthaus is one of the most versatile midfielders in history, he could play anywhere.

Played countless games as a sweeper too, so could easily provide that security and energy @JC Anton . Halfway between a B2B and DM in this formation.

I'd argue with players like Maradona it doesn't really matter.

He played plenty of games as a supporting striker and in the modern era with the flexible attacks you see, I wouldn't see a problem with playing him there.

He wasn't just a number 10. His goal against England on the right wing surely proves that, he could float anywhere on the park. Just like Messi.

They can roam all they want but you don't have a striker in your team. Those two with Platini will be stepping on each others toes.

Lahm is competent at left back but much better on the right.

Robben's entire game is centred around cutting in from the right and firing shots away with his left foot. That element of his game is completely removed from his game if he's out on the left.

Just to clarify, Lahm played 196 career games as a LB. 266 as a RB.

Not as if he was chucked there now and again, he was very well versed to playing there.

That isn't a player out of position.

    False.

Costacurta's career puts him on par, at least, with both of your CB's.

Aye, he picked the ball up at the halfway line.

You're attack is made up of two players who constantly drop deep to receive the ball, and a right winger playing on the left. It would be everywhere but in the box. Zero balance to it.

Players like Maradona and Messi need that focal point which gives them license to roam.

    Disagree.

I'd use these Drafts on here as evidence as well. I can't remember a time where I've seen Costacurta picked ahead of Scirea or Passarella.

It seems that most on here rate the other two higher, I know I've even seen yourself pick Scirea a good number of times even when Costacurta may have been available.

Nothing Keano or Monaghan argue, changes the fact that they have 3 players not playing in their strongest position, which disrupts the balance of their team. Our team is better, it's just that simple.

    He was the opposite.

Right footed and a natural right back who could play at left back when needed.

According to a piece recently published, Philipp Lahm’s imminent move to left back will make him more efficient!

Here is the key part of their article:

When it comes to attempts on goal however, there is a clear discrepancy. In his previous left back days, Lahm racked up a total of 36. Since moving to the right, he has managed only 14. At the same time, he has managed to up his crosses per game average from 2.6 to 3.7. While playing on the left though, around a quarter of those crosses found a team-mate in the middle. His quota as a right back is lower, at just 19 percent.

On the defensive front, the Munich-born star was also more active as a left back, averaging 9.1 man-on-man situations a game, of which he won 62.6 percent. His average down the right has been 6.4, almost three less, and he came out on top in “only” 58 percent of those. When it comes to clearing the ball, too, left has trumped right by 158 to 82 thus far. And when FC Bayern set a new Bundesliga record for fewest goals conceded (21) in 2007-08, Philipp Lahm was their left back.

This is very clear. Lahm is more efficient on the left. On top of it all, he has a dangerous shot when he cuts in towards the middle.

Put together, these facts are very interesting for FC Bayern…

    This.

If you're picking on names and reputation, then I can see why people would vote for Monaghan and Keano.

But we have a superior defence and an attack with three elite players playing in natural positions.

    Fair enough.

Hopefully people look beyond the names though.

One wonders why he played more games as a right back then?

    False and you know it.

Scirea and Passarella both far superior.
