Scotland No1 Gordon had a scan on Sunday, with manager Brendan Rodgers expecting him to be out until the end of April.

Rodgers said: “He’s going to be out for 12 weeks, so that’s disappointing for him.

“It’s the medial ligament, so he’s in a brace for six weeks and we’ll assess it from there but he’s a top professional and he will do whatever he needs to get back.

“He’ll do the work to strengthen it again, but I’m disappointed for him.

“Apart from five games out of the team when I first came in, he has been absolutely brilliant.

“We just need to get him, and want to get him, back as quickly as we can really.”

Rodgers will now look to sign a back-up for Dutchman Dorus de Vries during what remains of the transfer window.

Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson has been considered for the role.

However, it’s understood a deal is unlikely given that the clubs are some distance apart in their valuation of the Northern Irishman.

Rodgers added: “We’ve got Dorus, who has been a really loyal and terrific No2 and he’ll get an opportunity now.

“But I think that we’ll definitely have to get another keeper in. We’re looking at availability.”

Leigh Griffiths is also struggling to be fit for the Europa League clash with Zenit St Petersburg next month after injuring his calf on Saturday.

The striker scored the champions’ winner against Hibs at the weekend and Rodgers added: “He’ll probably be out for about four weeks.

“It’s his calf and he has ongoing issues with his calves really.

“I’m disappointed for him too, but hopefully we can get him back fitter and stronger and ready to go again.

“He’s going to have to work his way through it.”

Rodgers revealed that Stuart Armstrong, Tom Rogic and Marvin Compper are all battling back to full fitness.

However right-back Mikael Lustig is facing a spell on the sidelines.

Rodgers added: “Stuart has taken a nice step forward, so he is upping his intensity and his work.

“He shouldn’t be too far from rejoining the main group fairly soon.

“Rogic has been doing really well and it’s about catching up on his fitness.

“Compper should join the squad for training later in the week, so it’s about slowly getting a few of them back.

“But Mika has been struggling for four or five weeks with his Achilles.

“You could see it was affecting performances, so him and I spoke and it’s best to get it settled.

“Hopefully he’ll be back training within a couple of weeks as he’s been a real stalwart for me since I’ve been here with his availability for games, the number of games he has played as well as his performances.

“I hope we’ll get that right and then take it from there.

“We just have to see how he responds and comes back for Zenit.”

What is the craic with all these injuries? Would it be the type of training or anything cause we're getting too many. I hope we get a new RB but the way he talks about lustig there sounds like he wants him back in the team

Yeah I know that but the other injuries would you say the players muscles are strained from being over worked and that's why they're more injury prone?

It could be that, but I don't think we can say for certain.

Don't know if it's strenuous training. This time last year we nearly had a fully fit squad?

An entire team worth of players probably out now it seems :90:

    Gordon
    Lustig Boyata Compper
    Ajer
    Johnston Armstrong Hayes
    Roberts Rogic
    Griffiths
Never heard of anything like it, then again we probably have our biggest squad ever as well so just unlucky that so many of them are first choice guys.

BR: "The injuries are unfortunate but I’ll see where we’re at. I don’t know how serious the injuries are as of yet. We just need to wait and see.

Said this years ago. We seem to have a lot of injuries, all the * time !
Do we need better physios and sport scientists ? It can’t just be bad luck.
