A DELIGHTED Lewis Morgan admits he couldn’t turn down Celtic once he heard Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring him to Paradise.

The highly-rated Scotland Under-21 internationalist today completed his move from Championship leaders St Mirren, putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year deal in front of his family in the Celtic Park boardroom.

A number of clubs were interested in the talented winger, following his outstanding performances for Jack Ross’ side, but he had long set in his heart on becoming a Bhoy

Speaking exclusively to Celtic TV, Morgan said: “I’m absolutely delighted and it means a lot to me and my family as you can see with the support I have brought through today, and I can’t wait to get started.

“They have been trying to keep it to themselves. My Mum has been desperate to let the news out to some of her friends. It has been great for them and they are delighted for me and here’s hoping it will be a successful move.”

“Jack Ross had spoken to me towards the tail-end of last season and he just said there was a wee bit of interest and I never let it get to me. I have my peace with this decision that this is where I want to play for a couple of months.

“When you hear a club like Celtic is interested in you it probably does give you a wee extra 10-15 per cent and this season has shown that as I have added goals to my game and St Mirren are flying high at the minute so it’s been going well.

“Although there has been quite a lot exposure about it and a lot of questions about where I was going to go, I always knew this is where I wanted to come. In terms of the pressures, there was nothing in it.

“When a club like Celtic come calling you can’t really turn that opportunity down. I feel the manager and players here will help take my game to the next level and develop, and soon as I heard of their interest there was no other club I wanted to be at."

The 21-year-old also revealed that the prospect of working under Brendan Rodgers, a manager with a reputation for nurturing young talent, was also a big draw.

“All the clubs the manager has been at, he has had a strong youth policy and he has tried to blood through youth players," he said. "When you have a manager like that then it’s going to be a big bonus for a young player like me and trying to work with someone who has the experience he has is only going to be a benefit to me.

“The manager has just put across how eager he is to work with me and he has shown me examples of other young players he has worked with and help develop. To be honest, he didn’t need to say much to me as I already knew what a great club this is and what a great manager he is, and I can’t wait to get going.”

Morgan will return to the Paisley club on loan for the rest of the campaign to try and help them achieve promotion to the top flight before reporting for duty for the champions at the start of pre-season.

And while he knows there will be fierce competition for places, the new Bhoy will be determined to quickly stake a claim for a starting berth.

“I'm coming back and I want to hit the ground running," he said. "I'm certainly not coming just to be involved in a big club. I want to stamp my own authority and show that I am worthy of being here and try and break into the starting XI.

“I know I have a big task ahead of me and there are some brilliant players here, but I know I am up to it and I can’t wait to get started.”

St. Mirren fans are a mixed bag, but never had any issue with them. A small section stayed and clapped us in 86.. :)

Dundee U and St.Mirren up.. Hamilton and Ross County down..

    Just cant get enough
Might be missing something here but what do we gain by signing him now and then loaning him back to St Mirren? Why not just wait till the summer then sign him?

If we didn't tie him down now another team could have come in for him before summer, pretty simple.

He would be out of contract at that point and available to the highest bidder, we’d also have to pay a development fee to St.Mirren which could potentially have been higher than the reported fee.

Defo, I don’t understand why people draw comparisons between our wide-men and Christie.. he will come back in the Summer and compete for the no10..

Is BR trying to emulate the lions? :fear:
