Has anyone here gone about doing this?

Was just looking at someone getting all the details about where they come from and all and it re-ignited my interest on the whole thing, I'd love to know where I cam from and where it all started, hopefully the * that would go to librarys and look up those dusty aul records arent charging a grand a pop ha

    Anyone experience this?

There is place online that do a DNA test thing to give you an idea of where you come from going way back, about 80 quid I think it is.

How it works, I have not a clue. Sounds a bit * up.

I thought about doing it in the past but I've never gone through with it.

I guess I haven't done it because I would be worried about being ashamed at the results.

I mean, imagine finding out your ancestors were factors, or even NOBLEMEN!

    Not worth the chance.

Started a thread on this same subject a while back. I'm sure Drakhan and Jeannie are clued up on it IIRC.

I've still not gotten round to doing it, out of sheer laziness. Will do one day.

My oldest cousin is into this sort of thing and printed out an extended family tree for us all. All Scottish on my Mum's side and Irish on my Dad's, from my great grandparents going backwards. Not very exciting.

Ive done a lot of work on my family tree, I managed to go as far back as the 16th century. Scotland and England have the best archives in the world so if your family has stayed in Britain for a long time it is fairly straightforward. Irish records are much tougher to navigate - I gave up trying to dig into my Irish ancestors.

The DNA stuff is rubbish from what I have read. It wont tell you anything you dont already know by looking in the mirror.

Family research : I thinks its addictive ! I found out stuff that contradicted much of my family folk-lore.

DNA stuff : Sween is spot on.

Think mine is Royal Welsh blood with Irish Ryan blood. Great mix.
