Celtic have won 100 major honours as a club since 1888.

31 of them were won with Billy McNeill as captain or manager.

    Truly astonishing stat...:notworthy

It really is a horrible experience to watch someone you love's mind begin to go like that.

My gran and grandpa both died from it and we since found out that there was contamination issues with the water supply to their house (they'd lived their for 40 odd years).

We're worried now about whether it's affected their kids too (my mum, and her brother and sister). At least with the likes of cancer you are still the same person you always were and can say goodbye at the end.

Lovely to hear that he lights up when he visits Paradise though. It can't take away everything.

Although not quite the same, meories of my grandad, eeing him being reduced by Alzheimer's, those iincreasingly few moments of clarity lost in a fog of confusion and seeing that strong, capable and gentle man become a shadow of his former self.

So it is with great sadness to learn of Cesar's condition. Am sure all of the Celtic community are united in their support of him as he battles through this, and offer our thoughts to his family. Indeed, Scottish Football fans, no matter their leanings, should recognize the pride of place of his contributions to the game in this country.

And not to be too pedantic, but heads up to more than a few in this thread, his nick is Cesar (as in Cesar Romaro, from the original Ocean's 11 movie), not Caesar.

    I echo you thoughts mate.

On your footnote, yes i was one who until recently thought it was Caesar too, until read the Celtic wiki on nicknames. I do think it is easy to think of him as Caesar, particularly with the Hail (Hail) as an add-on, and in truth, i think it is more appropriate to call him Caesar.
It isnt a 'nickname' for me, its a tribute.

I just read that Caesar made 790 appearances for us, and played every minute, having never been substituted.

Anyone know if that's true? That's amazing :notworthy

I've known about this for quite some time, just hope that some dirty ratbag * hasn't threatened to expose Billy's illness, forcing the family to reveal it beforehand.

Regardless, such a shame to see a true giant in every sense of the word literally wasting away.

Like many of us, I've seen first hand how devastating Dementia or Alzheimers can be to a person and their family, so i can only hope in the time left they have with Ceaser that they still have some good moments.

    Bless them.

I didn't think Billy looked well at the CL group stage draw a few years back he seemed confused it must have been the start of it. I just thought its cause he was getting old, * bless Billy HH

    Indeed.

We even had some cretins on here ripping the * out of him when he couldn't manage getting the wee balls open.

I hope they are proud of themselves now...
