The fact that I was about in the early 70s (and in my early 20's then) is a giveaway to my age and to how long I have been following Celtic.
Back then I have fond memories of standing in the Jungle at Celtic Park with all the Celtic fans singing Rod Stewarts hit "Sailing".
Some people who I have spoken to recently have doubted my memory but I know it is true. We sang it with pride.
As it was sung, all the fans held their Green and White scarves above their heads and swayed.
Indeed it is very similar to how "You'll never Walk alone" is sung today.
For some fans it had a special meaning as it spoke of 'being free' and 'across the waters' etc and it was liked by many, many supporters.
Are there any other fans out there who remember this being sung in the Jungle? Were you one of them as I was?
Would today's Green Brigade consider singing it again??
It was only the Celtic fans who sang it. We shared it with no other team.
As You will Never Walk Alone became the number one option, it sadly fell out of favour and whilst I had no problem with that being the case, there is a big part of me who would long to hear the fans sing I am Sailing once again with all the scarves held high and swaying.
It is a great vision - as we all know.

Probably best to ask @Lion1961 or @Scotia or @Buster if they remember this being sung.

I just looked up the lyrics and it would be nice to hear that being sung by the present day crowd.

I remember it well mate. I also loved singing that song in the Jungle. Remember singing it the night 10 men won the league. I was about 14 at the time.

I remember hearing a song that was pretty similar to the Huns Copland road song ... along the lines "as I was walking down the gallowgate I met a bunch of strangers they said to me are you going to see the famous Glasgow Celtic"

I don't know how I came across it talking about a time before YouTube was about and it was on my computer. No idea of the name of the song title and if I can find it and no idea of the decade it was sang could you help???

I know the exact song you mean mate.

Just before that it goes "the crowd was really something hectic". It was on a cassette I had, same one that had 25th of May, John Thompson, The Celtic Rap, and the incredible, Celtic's Foreign Legion. I will find it...

This was the cover, struggling to find the track list

Edit: it wasn't that album at all, it was another one, Glasgow Celtic Supporters Songs Volume 2.

I think it might be The Famous Glasgow Celtic@Cmcgregor90

Bananaramas hey, hey, hey goodbye has been sung by our support consistently since it was a chart hit in the early 80s. First time I remember it being sung most of the game was a friendly V Arsenal when Champagne Charlie signed for them. I between the boos every time Nicholas got a touch of the ball.:33::RedFinger

Yes, I remember this song being sung back in the day in the old jungle. Another reason a lot of older Huns hate Rod Stewart.

Went quite well as i recall and would be good to hear it again

I have a few in the collection. But this is like the bible of all Celts albums. Dean Park was the go to for the Celtic song etc played over the tannoy on match days.

No t quite as old as you but I clearly remember the jungle singing 'Sailing' by Rod Stewart-swaying back and forth as you mention-just confirming that we are not a pair of Jack and Vicor's to the younger masses.

Sailing was sung regularly in the 80's. Sure the huns sing it today with their own vile banter changing the words

That s a brilliant vid. Reminds me of the 88 season perfectly. Packed hoops bars with * * everywhere and singing. BTW spotted a half Leeds/Celtic hat there. And Dean Park, I used to think it was George McCluskey when I was a kid.
