Just curious to see if anyone knows if Celtic will be doing anything to commemorate the rising around Easter? Any gestures like wearing something on their jersey etc?

they should, but I doubt it.

The SNP will be going over to commemorate it but I wouldn't hold my breath on the custodians of our club doing anything.

It will be left to the support.

You don't know what Ireland and her history has to do with Celtic?

I know my irish history better than most and I understand how its intrinsically linked with that of Celtic, however I fail to see why the club would mark the centenary of the rising it had little to do with Celtic

    Tricky one..

Would we be angered if Sevco celebrated anniversaries of the Boyne..er officially..

It's probably something the club will shy away from and I'm actually in two minds myself..

The club won't and shouldn't do anything publicly to celebrate the Easter Rising.
It's the fans who should do something.

Say what you want about the Celtic board pre Fergus but if they were in charge for the 100th Anniversary they would have Eire Og doing pre match entertainment with Marian Price on the drums. :smiley-laughing002:

I'm for it as the Club has a part in its early conception to be associated with the Irish National Forresters which played a part in 1916, some even a part of the Republican movement and other Nationalist movements names like Michael Davitt, Michael Cairns, Pat Welsh, William McKilliop, James Grant, James Kelly, Tom Colgan, Barney Battles, Sandy McMahon, Johnny Campbell and John Glass represented politically for the Club at various Irish Nationalist events.

I find it hypocritical that our contributions or other sources of revenue is administered to the British Poppy Fund which commemorates crimes not only in Ireland but other countries around the world, a pretty pejorative decision the Board takes annually while anyone who doesn't consent to it is subjected to a statement who isn't and is a Celtic fan. I know some in the support don't want to admit this into their consciousness as their educated environment is from the BBC and other heavily revised tabloid newspapers, if some view it politically sensitive if the Club did materialise some sort of commemoration or tribute, or even find it controversial as the Club has related history their, I find its down to the subjected ignorance they have processed in their cognitive psychology. Some can't even admit that we have this history, some are that ill-informed that they actually believe we sing Rebel songs because of the Troubles and refused to admit that the night we were created the founders never sung a Irish rebel song its just the cognitive dissonance that is playing in their mind as they use the BBC as their context of authority.

Repudiation will be the standard when it comes down to this after all its interwoven in our history but I doubt this Board would want to uphold that political representation as they conflict our Clubs history, I fully expect them to use revisionism like they did last year regarding Irish rebel songs.

    * bless the Irish volunteers who fought against the British Empire in 1916 :shamrock:

There is a kind of normalisation going on at Celtic Park right now, kind of like the same normailsation going on in Belfast (although nowhere near the same and I don't mean to trivialise the Troubles).

Irish history seems to be a dirty subject, it always was among the bigots but there seems to be such a concerted campaign against it now that even tims are buying into the bullshit.

Next Easters commemorations should be very interesting because make no mistake, the Celtic support will mark this loud and proud. It will be an eye opener to see how the poppy brigade handle it.
