This is starting to irk me quite a bit now and i feel compelled to vent..

This term "selling club" surfaces in the media and amongst fans every so often, as if its some new found revelation. Like someone is blowing the whistle on the truth and airing some untold hidden secret that hasnt yet come to light.

Lets all be clear, every club is a selling club in the SPL. Id go as far as to say that unless a club is europes financial elite, they too are selling clubs.
More specifically to us.. Given the status of the league that we exist and the income attainable from that league including television money etc. then wealthier clubs from bigger leagues will look to take our better players due to their bigger stature in domestic league and finance. This concept is natural and can be seen regularly throughout the footballing world at all levels.

Every player has their price. Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez had theirs. Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster had one too.

The only reason selling becomes an issue is that we fail to consistently operate the buy to sell policy due to significant lack of reinvestment back into the team.

Everyone speaks of Porto all the time and the income they generate from player sales. Falcao, Carvalho, Pepe, Mangala, James Rodriguez, Moutinho.. The list is long and impressive. But lets also look at the players they replace them with- the money they consistently reinvest. Its a financial model and a policy to behold. Sure, they dont have as strict work permit regulations as we have. But they also regularly buy the best of portugese. Something i feel that we fail to do with Scottish players. The buy to sell policy does work and we have to look to continually progress and reinvest in order for it to do so.

So yes, just like the FC Portos of the world.. Even the Liverpools, the Borussia Dortmunds, Atletico Madrids.. We sell on players to wealthier and sometimes "bigger" clubs.

Lets not fool outselves, this is nothing new. As long as we are a financially small fish in a big pond then this is our reality. Its just the nature of the beast.

Financial Fair play has made every club in Europe that needs to buy players a selling club bar Manchester United.

If the money is right there isn't a club in the world that can't be deemed a selling club.

Our problem is the conveyor belt of saleable talent seems to have dried up of late. We've also failed to adequately reinvest the vast sums we've raked in back into the team.

It hurt me to realise this...when I was 10 and we sold Dalglish. I've got over it now.

Porto took in £90m in transfer fees last season in the two windows. They spent £25 million on players.

Celtic took in £23m in the same windows and spent £11.6m on transfers.

So Porto's reinvestment in players is about half of Celtic's relative to transfer income.

That's the sort of insight that makes him such a good pundit.

I don't think Madrid, Barcelona, City, Chelsea or PSG have to sell to buy.
