Depressingly, many of them speak better English than * this side of the water!:smiley-laughing002:

That was always the running joke when Gers was Clogland - the post-match interviews increasingly featured the Dutch as opposed to Barry Bawbag et al, to ensure the folk watching the programme could understand what was being said!

His big breakthrough was second half of last years' season. Reason why his progress this season didnt go as well as expected by us fans and footy critics was he got an infected appendix which almost caused him to die. This was also the reason why he fell away from under 21's. He was in hospital for quite a while. Our club, defense, performed a lot less in those days.

He fought back, then became player of the year of Fc Groningen and got elected into the biggest newspapers "team of the year" lineup. As mentioned before, he is just a very good player. And he is modest and down to earth at the same time.

Some big signings this window, if I'm honest bigger than I was expecting. I really hope both lads are given time to adapt and not hounded if they don't perform right from the off.

Appreciate your input mate - knew about his illness, but despite that your words make me feel a bit more confident about this guy.:50:

Seems to be polar opposites personality wise to the last Dutch centre back we signed, so maybe that bodes well!

I know he is 6ft 4 so I'm not expecting him to be lightning quick, but would you say he is relatively quick over the ground for a centre half?

Can we call him "Big Dijk" :52:. Doing good business and I really hope we push the boat out for an attacking midfielder with flair and skill who runs at defenders pulling players out of position

I hope he can be the solution to all of our defensive problems once and for all. With both Rogne and Gershon leaving this summer, we were left with only Wilson and Mulgrew as our established centre backs, so we were always going to have to bring someone in to fill the void.

Mongongu now please, if that's not asking too much :icon_mrgreen:

Spot on, not lightning quick but rather technical and good over the ground. He was often used as a forward in last 10 - 15 minutes ( in one of the many times we were behind). I was always surprised with his technical moves then, nice tricks over the ground and all.

Its a big loss for my club, we will miss him.

How do you pronounce his first name? Veerheel or Virjj-il or Virgg-il.

Pretty certain it'll be Virjj-il :50: like the poet. Might be wrong though.

It said on BBC that he was flying in for talks and a medical today.

I'm guessing Celtic will confirm his signing tomorrow, assuming all goes well with the medical :50:

Aye, its what you'd think but im sure the Dutch pronounce G's as H's, dont know if is different for first names though if they are foreign names.
