    Allright guys.

    Can somebody explain the difference between the two genres for me ?

    Would it be fair to say that this is progressive house:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZW7cW2QKf0&feature=player_embedded"]Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl Feat. Georgi Kay - In My Mind (Axwell Mix) Full Version HD - YouTube[/ame]

    And this is progressive trance ?

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxMtO7HvXzA&feature=player_embedded"]Cosmic Gate & Emma Hewitt - Be Your Sound - YouTube[/ame]

    Is it a case of Prog house having more of a bassline , and Prog trance being more melodic?

    In short your more or less correct with house being more groove orientated and trance being more melody driven but i'll try give you a more rounded explanation. Ill give you the low down the best i can. Firstly SHM and Avicii are NOT progressive yet they somehow label all their tracks as being progressive.

    One of the most recognisable progressive producers is actually Deadmau5 who is hard to pigeon hole as he has tendencies to produce trance influenced house. Basically progressive is described as how it sounds. Progressive tracks are generally upwards of about 7:30 and typically have one breakdown and one main drop. You usually find the track builds and builds with changes to the tracks feel every 16 bars.

    As for the difference between prog house and trance. It can come down to various factors such as BPM's and simply trance or house elements. I'll give you two examples.

    Prog House
    The go to track for me when i'm ever describing the difference between the genre's. When you listen to this track with the basic guidlines i mentioned it then becomes obvious. Layers and layers just keep getting added to this track before ... the drop.
    Notice this is more groove orientated than the prog trance track too.
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0WKCkFh1tw"]Matt Lange - Rift - YouTube[/ame]

    Prog trance
    Notice how the song builds up gradually with one big break down (as opposed to maybe 2 in a normal track) then one big drop (5:20)! The big give away to prog trance is normally the use of saw pads, percs and fx really.
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7TdHYhGqmI"]Parker & Hanson - Alquimia (Andrew Bayer Remix) - YouTube[/ame]

    In summary its basically the characteristics of genres and the way the song opens up that makes them progressive. I cant get enough of progressive. If you would rather some extra examples for clarity just say. Got so many to share :D

    From those two samples I definately prefer Prog Trance.

    How about we start at the beginning.
    With the differences between House and Trance.
    Am I right in saying that trance is more 'emotional' than house, with a faster beat, but smoother melodies ?

    This would be trance: (possibly uplifting trance ? )

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqRLjw8QuEA"]Kandi & Neumann - Let Go (Original Mix) - YouTube[/ame]

    And this would be house:

    Dont let that first track put you off prog. house as it was only one example but i do find prog trance a bit more interesting. Suppose it depends on what mood your in.

    Your more or less right (but thats not to say you cant get uplifting house either though IE the track you posted).

    As for the trance track, great choice of Daniel Kandi, alongside Dan Stone they are the best at producing uplifting tracks. And the other is a house track yeah.

    Your right. As i said in the last post house is more about the grooves until recently with the likes of SHM starting to use big room trance sounds in their tracks.

    Trance generally goes from 132 BPM to around 140BPM with more emphasis on the synths and melodies.

    House generally goes from around 124BPM to 128 BPM with more focus on the percs and grooves.

    Prog generally follows the same rules but the song structures change up slightly. For example, the way how the track builds up.

    How about this for a prog trance though
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTj-AQHPp9Y"

    Another example of prog house.

    Yeah, again from those 2 videos I prefer prog trance. Seems more powerful IMO, although this track is also powerful :

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZW7cW2QKf0"]Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl Feat. Georgi Kay - In My Mind (Axwell Mix) Full Version HD - YouTube[/ame]

    Would you call that prog house, or just house ? It is very uplifting IMO.

    Also, what do you mean by percs and synths ?

    Still don't get what the progression is all about though!
    Would this be just (uplifting) trance?

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxN_hRuCXQQ&feature=player_embedded#"]Armin Van Buuren - Coming Home (Asot 473 rip) - YouTube[/ame]!

    Could it be summed up by saying that with house, you can dance to, with trance, you have to LISTEN to and connect with it ? Thats how I feel anyway.

    Edit, just realised I have allready posted that video in the first post :31:

    Could you please post some tracks that you are certain of the genre, and I will try to tell if they are house trance ?

    Yeah just forget that last post, I know the difference between trance and house! If you just listen to it it is so clear, rather than trying to have it described to you.
    The genre of music that I love is house, uplifting house.

    Stuff like this:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw7Sy_oeo_0&feature=player_embedded#"]Fareoh & Archie V. vs Adrian Lux - 2012 Teenage Crime - YouTube[/ame]!

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHkDt9NSBQc&feature=player_embedded#"]Otto Knows - Million Voices (Original Mix) - YouTube[/ame]!

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VL6pLHrUVM&feature=player_embedded"]Dinka - Elements (EDX 5un5hine Rmx) - YouTube[/ame]

    I plan on creating a website promoting this genre of music!

    It's cool that you'v found your preference mate :) but really theres nothing to get confused with by the progressive tag. Its just the way the song builds up. It progresses. As opposed to the standard template ie the build up - the break down with the vocals and what not - the drop (where everyone goes nuts) - repeat.

    The Axwell Remix is prime example of what i call big room house. It takes all the big sounds from trance and puts them into a modern house track. So yeah, its basically just a house track, not progressive.

    By percs, i mean the percussion lines. The standard 4 x 4 kick drums. The hats, snares, loops. The slower house beats give producers more time between kicks to get creative with their arrangements leading to some seriously fun stuff.

    By synths, i'm talking about the use of the sounds to create the melody :)

    The part of your post i've highlighted is exactly the point. Thats pretty much how trance got it's name actually. The way it makes you feel. Whereas house as always been more club friendly.

    I'll post tracks for you no bother.

    First up... 1.
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL5kgtDsh0Y"]Mat Zo - Loop (The Essential Unreleased Mix) (Full HD) - YouTube[/ame]

    Then.. 2.
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTj-AQHPp9Y"]Cold Blue - Sanguinity - YouTube[/ame]

    And.. 3.
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rgzmk6bpeM0"]DJ Generous - Wonder Why (Proff Vocal Mix) - YouTube[/ame]

    All progressive tracks so just try work out what ones trance and what ones house :50:

    Ok, thanks man.

    Track 1 - Right from the start I would say its house. Just seems too funky for trance.

    Track 2 - Definatly trance mate! I dont wanna dance to it, I wanna listen and enjoy it. Especially when the beat stops, and your left with that sweet melody!

    Track 3 - Seems funky right from that start, so Id say House. Not as obvious as the first one though, IMO.

    What would an expert label these tracks?
    I just call them "Dance" for ipod simplicity lol.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CptmX3FqNL8"]Orjan Nilsen - Legions (Original Mix) - YouTube[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj6DMScl2R4"]Deadmau5 - October (HD) - YouTube[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufMM_sk64jE"]Paul van Dyk - Forbidden Fruit - YouTube[/ame]

    To me these tracks sound what I would describe as uplifting and "progressive" although adjectives in music are so stupid as everyone sees (hears) it so differently!

    Some of the tunes posted itt are great, hopefully you guys who know can post some more!

    Deadmau5 is house mate.
    3rd track seems like trance, but like a chillout sort of trance. Very slow.
    1st track is trance also, IMO I am not an expert lol

    Good track buddy!
    I see you prefer trance then?
    I do love trance, but I would say I am slightly more into uplifting house music.
    Looking into creating a website, will take a lot of research and planning first though.
    You got a website ?

    I'll be sure to check them out bud.

    For myself, I am looking at starting off with just a House music website, with latest tracks, event Info and such like.

    But my larger scale plans are to become an artist promoter.
    What I want to do is go out and find new, fresh artists and help to increase their reputation, help to sell their tracks etc.

    Im right at the beginning, looking into many things about; running a website, how to find new artists, stuff like that.
    Its what I want to do!

    I could fire unknowns at your left right and centre mate providing it's progressive house lol! The best advice i could give regards promoting is quality over quantity. Not that i have hands on experience but i search through hundreds of labels that are signing tracks for the sake of signing tracks. Theres unsigned gems out there if you look hard enough.

    One of the best ways to go about it is actually soundcloud. Spend a few hours searching on that and you could easily have a shortlist in no time. Otherwise going through forums is a good place to start too, trance/house forums i mean.

    Yeah I get what you mean. I would be very thorough in my search, making sure I don't pick up any duds. Obviously at times I guess it will be hit and miss, some artists just wont sell, no matter how great I think their music is.

    Aye, soundcloud is very good for that. A lot of new people trying their hand at House music, some is absolutely terrible, some Is rather good.

    The hardest part of it all is actually learning about internet marketing, and making sure what you are doing is staying legal. There is so much to learn haha.

    You sound like you have your head screwed on anyway mate. If they dont sell and you like their music atleast its not a total loss. A good tip would be learn/ or know somebody that can master tracks well so they are ready for release. Having a track sent away to an independent studio for mastering can be very costly.

    Aw i agree with regards your last point. That will require a bit of research but alot of it is common sense. For example make sure samples, vocals arnt copyrighted. Which can be made clearly simply through a google search. Gonna be some amount of fun!

    Do you DJ at all? Best way to A&R a track is to play it out before you sign it and see how the crowd reacts.

    Cheers lad!
    Exactly, at least i have still found music that I enjoy listening to!

    A good tip would be learn/ or know somebody that can master tracks well so they are ready for release.

    I get you. Im sure I will come across and meet many people once I get seriously into this. Have not been looking into it too much lately with the good weather and all haha.

    And yeah, It will be awesome, doing something that I love and after a while, getting paid for it!
    I don't DJ, have tried it before just on the PC and I am horrible at it :56:
