Hip hop is not dead, it's just underground. But, your new up and comers would include: J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Big K.R.I.T., Machine Gun Kelly, Yelawolf, Freddie Gibbs. Still a * load of MCs that are not killing hip hop.

Kid CuDi is not hip hop either. I love him to death, but that boy just makes great music, not rap. Can't even put 16 bars together lol.

Here's my favorite rap artist and a couple of his songs:YouTube - Tech N9ne This Ring

YouTube - Tech N9ne - Industry Is Punks

YouTube - Tech N9ne - Ego Trippin' Lyrics

And here is Freddie Gibbs and him using the instrumental off of the Stretch & Bobbito Show with Big L & Jay-Z back in 97:

YouTube - Freddie Gibbs "The Ghetto" OFFICIAL HQ UNCENSORED Music Video

Chorus is lame, granted this is just for a mixtape.

    Let the people sing,
Totally disagree with the OP. Can't stand half the names mentioned, very little musical talent whatsoever in my opinion.

Hip-hop just like a lot of genres of music atm is at an all-time LOW. Saying that though, it makes it all the more satisfying when you hear people with real talent like J. Cole :)

Six page on modern Hip-hop/Rap and the majority are what Ice-T would describe as "Ringtone Rappers".

Six pages and not a mention of La Coka Nostra?

I dont literally mean it was the BEST, but that * was magic.
I could only see The Eminem Show and The Marshall Mathers LP being better, relapse was * terrible and Encore never 'did it' for me

If it wasnt the best of 2010, then your off your fucken head.
In the Genre of music, the only hip-hop/rap albums that probably beat it was Kanye's new one and Thank Me Later by Drake.

I'm 17, what age are you?

You've beat yourself there. In terms of mainstream releases those were the top 3, Kanye, Drake and Em in that order. There's obviously things like Distant Relatives too but I wouldn't really class them as mainstream.

Eminem's best album (by a distance) is The Slim Shady LP IMO. Not an Eminem album as such but some of his verses on D12's debut were very good too I thought.

I know it is all a matter of opinion, but I'd have to put Big Boi's Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Return of Chico Dusty, Recovery, then Kanye; in terms of Mainstream.

But, I'll list off of a few LPs & EPs you guys should check out... and my favorite of 2010 (if possible because most of this * might be hard to get in the UK):
    In no particular order:
Dinner & A Movie ~ Brotha Lyncg Hung
Hunger for More 2 ~ Lloyd Banks
    Trill O.G. ~ Bun B
How I Got Over ~ The Roots
Revolutions Per Minute ~ Reflection Eternal
    Seepage EP ~ Tech N9ne
Distant Relatives ~ NaS & Damian Marley
The Stimulus Package ~ Freeway & Jake One

I didn't mind B.o.B's album, but you should probably check out No Genre, his mixtape. Kanye, Em's and Big Boi's would be included in that list. And no, Nicki Minaj would not make the list. She can spit a few good bars here and there and that's about it. Drake loses by default because people think he's a savior to the hip hop community. The only time that * was played at a party was so someone could be drunk and dance with people in an attempt to get laid.

Cudder also produced a good album, but I still stand by the fact that he is not "hip-hop" he just makes good * music... next genertion *.

It's just my opinion, but I can only tolerate him so much.

It goes back to Tha Carter III ~ Lil Wayne, when everyone was overplaying the damned CD. I then started to get * at the Young Money's trade mark, which is that punch-line rap... which Wayne, Drake and Nicki follow. In summary, I can only tolerate Drake for 1 song, out of annoyance. Not because he is liked, but because I hear the same * constantly.

In all honesty his album was excellent. I just can't stand to hear his voice currently. Give me one more year and I can handle it. Took me 2 years to listen to the Carter III after radio beat the dead horse with it.

Oh yeah, I wasn't shooting you down lol. Music is what you like, simple.

I wouldn't say he is overrated. A lot of rappers consider him an idol. He is a legend and past his day, that's all.

Eminem is the best ever, it really is that simple.

When Eminem was producing his best music (which admittedly, was a while back), his stuff was untouchable and hasn't been matched by any other artist or indeed, by Eminem himself.

I'd disagree, Eminem is certainly the best artist who has blown since he did but in my opinion he can't be in any way called the best of all time. What about Nas? What about Biggie? What about Big L or Jay-Z?

Im gonna put this into football terms.
Biggie and Pac are like pele and maradona.
Jay-Z i could see like ryan giggs, a golden oldie that keeps giving things to the industry.
Eminem as a fan i would say is the best. Messi? haha.

In footballing terms, or any other, I wouldn't put Tupac in the same league as Big, Nas Jay-Z (old Jay-Z obviously) or Big L, even Eminem.

Jay is nothing like Giggs though, no one could call Giggs one of the best players ever, he's great, but in relative terms he isn't in Jay-Z's league if you know what I mean.

Fair enough though if you think Eminem is the best, it's all opinions.

Do you think you like Eminem the best because to an extent you have grown up with him, or because you genuinely think he's the best lyricist? Doesn't matter either way, just a question?

    My list:
    1. B.I.G.
Lyrical genius and the best story teller of all time.

    2. 2pac
One minute it's Brenda's got a baby, the next one is talking about how he's going to bang some chick. A political rapper that appealed to all races and he rapped from about different aspects of life from all angles. Plus his voice was just amazing.

    3. Big L
    YouTube - Big L and Jay-Z - 7 Minute Freestyle (LYRICS)
That freestyle alone earns him a top 10.

    4. Public Enemy
I don't need to touch base with this one:84:

    5. Eminem
Encore and Relapse were disappointing. Eminem 10 years ago would be #3. Still love him though. Probably best rapper out currenly.

    6. Jay-Z
8 multi-platinum records. Reasonable Doubt was a masterpiece... * even The Blueprint was amazing. He did lose the rap battle to Nas, but in the end, he did win the war.

    7. NaS
    Illmatic was just a classic.

    8. Wu-Tang Clan
Every one could rap in this group.

    9. Tech N9ne
I want you guys to go to youtube and type in Stamina by him. Anyone who can rap over gun shots is just raw. Also, I've been to this dude's concert before and bar none the most energetic, electric... pretty much indescribable raw kick * emotion you have ever felt. Plus this dude is the number 1 independent rapper in the world and after 10 years the "industry" is starting to listen. Plus, he is my favorite rapper.

    10. Immortal Technique
He raps using complex ideas and comes up with words that most people don't even know existed. Now I'm thinking about he should be at least 6th or better on this list lol.
