That probably is our best hope. Hope that Holland run away with it and dominate very other team I the group and we slug it out for 2nd place, although Norway have now got the upper hand.

Yeap.
At this point I'd say 2nd is the best shot.

"The nine group winners will qualify directly and the best eight runners-up will play home and away play-off matches for the remaining four places."
So that's a yes mate.

Yes. No doubt it will be Macedonia from our group the way things are going.
I hate that rule by the way.

We could feasibly get 2nd place (best case scenario) with something as low as 6-8 points - if we draw a lot with the equally shite teams in our group - and not qualify.

Exactly. Which would be typical Scotland.
The way it works is, because our group has one team less that every other group, the second placed teams in the other groups don't have their results against the bottom laced teams in those groups counted while determining the 8 best second place teams.

Typical Scotland would be missing a penalty in the last minute of your final group game to miss out on second spot.

I was watching this in Dutch and it's almost frustratingly close to English. He'd say something that sounded English, then something that sounded German...
