Ireland will play qualifier at neutral venue

The Republic of Ireland will play their World Cup qualifier against Georgia at a neutral venue because of the security situation in the former Soviet state.
The match was scheduled to be played on 6 September in the capital Tbilisi but the conflict with Russia led the Republic to ask for a change of venue.
Fifa made the decision on Tuesday to hold the game at a neutral stadium.
The Georgian Football Federation has until 26 August to nominate a venue for the Group Eight opener.
The Football Association of Ireland wrote to Fifa, Uefa and the Georgian Football Federation to request a change of venue for the game.
"Fifa reached this decision after closely monitoring the situation in Georgia and taking note that Uefa also decided to ask Georgian clubs involved in Uefa competitions to play their matches in neutral countries," said the governing body. The match will be Giovanni Trapattoni's first competitive match in charge of the Republic.

Good news for Ireland.

They'll probably pick one of the countries bordering Georgia - and no, not Russia.

Still, every little helps.

I don't think Georgia will nominate Parkhead as the neutral venue.

im only kidding on...but why not, it would be a smart bit of business from the georgian fa, as no matter where it will get played now, there will be more irish. they should try and get the highest gate receipt possible.

They looked good when they pumped the Jocks last year. I'd take a draw as long as we beat Montenegro.
