If we manage to pull a Saviola out the hat i'd be impressed, like Lawell has stated this works well for every party involved and not just with Barcelona but any of the major teams in all the big leagues.

I think the deal will work well for us. Lets face it he played 8 games for Lyon and they are not a bad side. If im right their fans wanted the club to get him permanently.
I also think that the work is continuing inside CP to get atleast 2 more players in. I think Strachan himself would be disappointed if we did not. But at the same time we can not over spend. We will spend the money if we can attract a good enough player otherwise why bother.

Barca don't have first refusal on any of our players we are not a feeder club nothing has been singed and we are not officially reconised as a feeder club and we never will be, what the deal means is after two years the club that sold us the player will have an option to buy the player and only that player back for an agreed sum, if at anytime any other club makes an offer for the player Barca would be notified and it would be up to them to make an offer.
thats all that will happen this deal dose not affect any of our other player.
and t be honest i welcome this policy a player that might not make it at barca but is more than good enough for celtic could find he wants to stay anyway.

Both buy-back clause and procentage of next sale are very common in Spain, it has nothing to do with part ownership as in Italy or feeder relationship. In fact it would be really uncommon for big Spanish club as Real Madrid or Barcelona not to include both or at least one such clause when selling a young player.
The perception in Spain is that both clubs buy expensive and sell cheap, and that they're outsmarted in every negotiations (like they're so rich that don't know the difference betwen 1M or 10M), so those clauses are there to avoid both clubs to look like complete morons after every transfer.
There are ways though to outsmart Barcelona regarding the 25% of next sale, and it was done before. You can release the player to another club for 0 euros (or some small fictional amount) and receive the money "behind the scenes", or loan a player for a big compensation (which is not considered a sale and Barca doesn't get its 25%), or use a player in a swap deal (Barca won't demand 25% of the new player, no worry, we won't demand his left leg or right arm).
Regarding the buy back clause, Barca won't exercise this clause if Crosas would be good or just very good. He needs to be at least excellent. It's not just that he has to compete with our current set of midfielders, where Xavi and Iniesta were starters in Euro2008 Spain squad and Cesc a backup, but he'll have to compete with some future LatinAmerican midfielder we'll buy in a year or two, and with the talented youth midfielder which will start knocking on the door of the first team in a year or two (one of them -- Thiago is probably known outside Spain too).

This is all rather boring. I can't believe this is the only thread with substance considering we have not signed a defender this summer and there is clearly some cash to spend. There's only 3 weeks on the transfer window open as well.

Have heard rumours, rumours remember.. that we'll grab a pacey striker from Barca before the window closes, possibly only a season long deal. I have no names and no source, but I did read it a few times around the normal shite filled sites. going to give someone a call soon and see if I can get any inside info, here's hoping :)

don't panic man, 3 weeks is a long time. I agree we could use a bit extra for Europe but is anyone here even remotely worried about the domestics?
