Jan's happy, we're happy i see no need to sell him.
i would bite their hands off, you would reject. to each their own.

this is a hard one , JVOH has the abillty to save us in imporant matches as football manager would says " he has the ability to be a match winner" but for £7m at his age is a great offer and celtic should look into it before deciding to accept any offers

Celtic have and will reject any bit for Jan.
he has said he loves playing for the club and is settled in Glasgow.
Hes our main striker and has silenced his critics with some vital goals for us

A lot of people will disagree but i think we'll see fairly clearly in the new season that he is in fact our best striker. Skippy wouldn't have scored as many goals and, the bottom line is, we wouldn't have won the SPL without him.

I agree, Jan had a very impressive pre season. Selling him would be a mistake. It may be £7M but what good is that to us if the quality of the first team is diminished. Moan all you want about Hesslinks pace, he still bagged over 20 league goals last season. Samaras is not as dominant in the air as he is and McDonald gets more chances from Hesselink's work.

We'd have to have a really good replacement lined up and that would cost alot more that we can get for Hesselink.

I agree with you, but looking at it from a business sense and that is what celtic will do. He is 30 with 2 years left on his contract, which means if we want anything for him we would have to sell him next year anyway and get a pittance. It's much easier trying to replace him with £7m in your hand than with nothing a year or 2 down the line.

But would you get a better striker on Jan's wages for £7M? The odds are very much against it.

it's the same when replacing any striker, you have to hope that the new guy can bang in the goals. Football's a lottery, whether you spend £100,000 or £10m.

CELTIC want to move on players before the transfer window closes to help fund the arrival of at least two more targets on Gordon Strachan's wish list.
But Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is not one of the men they are prepared to let go - even if Hamburg come up with an offer double what Celtic paid for him two years ago.
Reports from Germany claim the giant Dutch striker is a target for Hamburg boss Martin Jol, with £7million the offer the former Spurs boss is prepared to make.
However, Parkhead boss Strachan considers the 29-year-old hitman - who has two years remaining on the contract he signed when joined from PSV Eindhoven in 2006 - as integral to his plans for the coming seasons. He would not sanction any attempt to sell Vennegoor, who has already been the subject of an enquiry from Feyenoord since he scored the goal which clinched the SPL title at Tannadice in May.
Strachan understands that the more money raised from players going out, the more cash he will have to spend on strengthening his side.
Midfielder Marc Crosas will arrive tomorrow for a medical to seal his £415,000 move from Barcelona. He is expected to be paraded before Sunday's SPL opener against St Mirren.
But the search for defensive reinforcements continues. And the removal of Bobo Balde's £1.5m salary from the wage bill would be a huge help in clearing the way for another centre-back to be recruited.
However, despite the 32-year-old Guinean being allowed to leave on a free transfer, and receiving offers to kick start his career at both Sunderland and Birmingham, Balde is digging his heels in.
He wants to at least maintain the salary he is currently enjoying, a request which is proving too expensive for Blues gaffer Alex McLeish.

Evening Times: Sport

That's good enough for me, I think it'd be crazy to sell him at this point.

Now you said it, why sell a known quantity like Jan to spend 7M on an unknown one that could easily fail as succeed. Who said that we will be able to get a target that is worth 7M and not just an inflated price tag.

A definitive no sell. 7M is too little, I'd sell him for 15M, but still wouldn't be happy. You can't find a good target man easily... Pavlyuchenko perhaps... But we need to have both Jehovah and Sammy, our game plan relies on target men. And on top of it, Jan is a faithful Celt, so...

If we were to theoretically have a £7 million bid accepted for any striekr I doubt we'd be able to afford the wages.... Maybe without Bobo, Gravesen and Donati but still can't see it happening
