Now this is a contradiction 30 is not old and 7 million is not enough for a player with Jan’s profile. However for me there was and are better options out there for us to pursue if we did sell him.

We missed out on Kitson, Crouch however even someone like Yakubu would also be a better option IMO. Also in the EPL Arsenal’s young striker Bednar looks a real prospect. Further a field the big Russian guy who plays for Zenit, Zigic from Valencia, Cavenaghi at Boudreaux or even another young prospect Derdiyok from Basel all would be good replacements IMO.

No deal, maybe in the last transfer window when £7 million bought you quality but as far as strikers are concerned recently it buys you 2/3 of Andy Johnson. I know who i'd rather have in my team.

Cannot see it happening, Lawwell would want 7.1 anyway.

thats the EPL market. we certainly wouldn't be looking there for a replacement. we would look to mainland Europe.

£7m for JVoH? why are we discussing it? its a straight and immediate yes.

we could buy a better striker than JVoH for £7m. i'm not saying he isn't a good striker, i'm just saying we could buy a better one for that amount.

if skippy cost £700k and JVoH cost us £3.5m, i think we can find a better striker for £7m.

Ellboy mentioned a few, take your pick.

Jan scored 20 goals last season, certainly not prolific.

The EPL market is the one we're contending with, every single decent player almost to a man will be wanted by an EPL club if we're after them. In fact the EPL market is dictating the price of just about every player in Europe just now.

Therefore yes it's a topic of discussion and no i wouldn't take £7 million.

just because the season is 2 days away doesn't mean we cannot strengthen. the window is still open. and its St Mirren we're playing on the opening day. i trust Skippy and Samaras to score against them.

i suggest Cavenaghi, Jeremy Menez, Danko Lazovic, Zigic etc. but i'm not a scout. i'm sure if you tell our scouts to find the better option to replace JVoH with a budget of £7m, they will do it.

your right, it does have a knock on effect on other markets. but they are nowhere near as inflated as the EPL.

players slip under their radar (eg JVoH when he was at PSV).

how much would you accept for JVoH then?

2 days before the defence of the SPL? Nothing, unless there was another European class, international striker willing to sign for less and pick up 20K a week to play in the SPL when he could go down to West Ham or Everton and pick up double that in the best league in the world.

Jan's happy, we're happy i see no need to sell him.
