this was a very rough translation of the bit in l equipe
The Rumanian international defender, Gabriel Tamas, which was to take again l' drive this morning with l' AJA, n' finally was not in Burgundy, but in Glasgow. The player meets there the leaders of Celtic, who started discussions with their French counterparts. Celtic, which s' also interest in the defender Montenegrin of Mans Marko Basa, would have already proposed 5 d' million; euros to make come Tamas, under contract with Auxerre jusqu' in June 2011. “If the proposal is interesting and that the two clubs put d' agreement, we will not retain it. And we will see s' then; it should be replaced”, explained Jean Fernandez, which granted a few additional days to the Kenyan Oliech Refusals for family reasons. - A.B.
Doesnt exactly flow, but you can get the just of it

5m euros is ok, thought 5m was a bit steep. It still works out at about £4m doesn't it? That's a lot for a centre back, how old is he?

here is a bit of the Petrescu article
95-times capped Petrescu believes Strachan - his former manager during a brief spell at Southampton - would be making a topclass acquisition should he follow up his interest in the 6ft 2in defender.
Petrescu, whose UEFA Cup-bound side are due to face Celtic in a closed-door game during their stay in Scotland, said: "I don't know about the price but I think Celtic will be doing good business if they buy Gabriel.
"He is a good centre-back who can play on the right or the left. He is physical and can play well under pressure.
"On the ball he is maybe one of the best centre-backs in the world.
"I wouldn't know whether he is well-suited to Scottish football but I know he is well-suited to Gordon Strachan's football.
"I know Gordon very well. He spoke to me about the player and I told him that if he buys Tamas he will be doing good business for the club."
