In fact surely there would be all out carnage if we didn't bring in a huge signing.
We should and evidently are sending our scouts down the less beaten track. Eastern Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia. You can see evidence of this with Naka, Koki, Du Wei, Boruc, Zurawski, that American midfielder we couldnt get, the keeper Guzan, this other yank keeper....
The only problem is our work permit situation which gives teams from comparable smaller leagues (Holland, France, Portugal) massive massive advantage.

While saying this, Celtic do have an urgency no matter what to spend on players of quality this season! Id rather see Celtic pay 5Million for some South American or Eastern European youngster who has some ABILITY rather than some of the jokes linked with us i.iei LAFFERTY. All in all there is a need for celtic to take the plunge on some young foreign talents, maybe not 5 million but more than 500,000.
These scouts we have out there have done a decent job, but it is now time we take Celtic to the next level. I do believe there is a bit of cash around in Desmonds pockets, and as a shrewd business man as himself I hope he dips in to take us to the next level.
I am not asking for 10 million on a player but it is about time we bought some quality players to show the respect to the hoops jersey, although this is no disrespect to the players we have, but to be fair Caldwell doesn't have lightning pace.
We need players to emphasise what we have on the flanks, with possibly a decent attacking midfielder alongside Robson, McGeady and Naka. I agree we certainly need a new left back, and Kadlec has seen decent in Euro's.
Let's hope we will be taking a step up with our signings this summer!

We can debate all day about big name signings v's the best in the SPL.Relity is 90% of our team will be made up of free transfers,SPL or Championship type players but Celtic are in the entertainment buisness and you only have to look at the most viewed forum here(transfer rumours). The buzz a big name or exciting player brings is what excites fans therefore I think we will see 1 FLASHY signing.

under normal circumstances younger players would have got a chance at the end of the season but as it was so close he didnt really have much choice because it wouldnt have been fair to throw them in when the pressure was on . get them all out on loan well not all but you get me because thats the best way to see how they cope

i think ur right on that, but i think we could buy players from the lesser teams in the euros ie Turkey, Switzerland, Poland
Turkey have some good players like Arda id never heard of him b4 now.
Poland have Smolarek who ive always thought he has been a quality player and another guy i cant remember his name but he is the spitting image of joos valgaren
so i do think its a hopeless cause scouting at the euros

Blooding youngsters is what we will have to do over the years and the fincial gap will get even bigger between us and the big league.
Unless we find gems, are own youths are gonna bring us forward. But we do have a lot of quailty that could easily be broguht into the squad next season.
Get them on the last 20/30 mins of games, the cup games, a few starts here and there and if we win the league early give them free reign in the last few games.
Do this with a few, it will save us a lot of money in the transfer market and probaly be able to be sold for a few million in a few years

Invest in young players coming through I say. And if we need to get players in quickly to strengthen some areas there's enough talent around in the SPL and other leagues to pick them up at sane prices. That approach worked last season. The trouble with big names is not just the transfer fees, it's the high wages.

The trouble with making really big signings of the 5 - 10 mill bracket is that they have to hit the ground running and realise top form. When that fails how can any manager then bring in a "cheaper player" who's on form and then makes the big signing and the manager look useless. Also the money men are sitting in the stand thinking "Why did we spend 10 mill on him when this guy was on the books". So any manager will persevere with the big signing. Still think Donati will come good he's quality.
