Well if he choses Wolves then fair enough he really must have a problem with signing for us. However, that may not be entirely down to being a Rangers fan. Lenny was a catholic northern Irishman who played for us and look at the grief he got back in Northern Ireland. Imagine how brave a protestant Northern Irishman would have to be to cross the divide now. There have only been a few that did it. Bertie Peacock was pre-troubles and Alan McNight (I think). Cant think of more. I think he is from a really unionist town and could get a lot of grief. If he does cross the divide, Celtic fans need to realise how much bravery that takes and back him 1000%. In Northern Ireland Glasgow is called diet Northern Ireland or Northern Ireland light so I think you can imagine.

Evening gents, Burnley fan here.
Japanesebhoy is quire correct, KL has occupied left of midfield for most of the season because Burnley haven't had a creditable leftsided player, and as such his goalscoring opportunities have suffered as a consequence.
The bloke has generated quite a lot of debate amongst the Burnley fans, especially since November when Fulham slapped in a £4m bid for him.
In fact the piece by claridge caused a huge debate, mainly because he was distinctly average that night.
Some would of taken that offer in January, others wanted to see him develop into the striker that they believed he could become. Owen Coyle said he wanted to keep him.
Things started to come to a head in January when he had an altercation with a section of the fans at Blackpool, when the team we're stuffed and he got some stick. Add to that the interest shown by Celtic and his form slumped really from the point he was red carded against Arsenal. To be fair that was a 50/50 decision.
Anyway, he played up top for the last few games and showed a distinct improvement in form.
He's said some stuff in the Belfast press which has alienated himself from the Burnley crowd, so you're probably not going to get a decent reflection from the fans, they want him out and the cash in.
I think he'll develop at a club such as Celtic, but he does need to learn to keep his gob shut, because he's received a lot of support and help from BFC and the fans.
He's certainly not a crap player and he'd develop with better players around him.
Anyhow, Good luck, Chuffed to bits Celtic won the SPL, and hopefully we'll be visiting parkhead for a pre season friendly next year.

Good post poolebhoy and welcome
The last sentance of your post says it all for me when you mention the possibility of a freindly match. This will only happen as part of a deal to bring Lafferty to paradise.
You seem to be more interested in a day out at Celtic Park rather than keeping hold of your pize asset. Surely if Burnley fans really rated Lafferty you would be more vocal in your support of him and would want to keep the lad at Turf Moor.

I think it's just facing realism really, ellboy. After the January transfer window had close the majority we're pleased that the bids had been staved off and KL was staying. £3-4M is a fair wedge to a club like Burnley, and we saw it as a statement of intent that the board and management we're keeping hold of these types of players, and in fact bidding against Celtic for the likes of Robson.
But, KL wants away and now he's lost the support we want him away. In football that can't work at any level. So now Burnley are holding out for the best deal, If that involves a weekend in Glasgow then that's fine

I haven't seen him play so judgement based ona crap goalscoring record, a rangers fan, problems with the Burnley fans + £4mill price = no to me. I dont have a good feeling about this one.
Would rather pay the £3mil for Samaras. Rangers are getting Velicka for £1mil - I would've been happy with that for a back up striker.
Look elswewhere Strachan, please, u need to get the signings right

I see your point when a player wants away then sections of the support will turn against a player. For a player who has a questionable attitude and has shown little loyalty towards his current employers, those traits are not exactly an attractive prospect for a perspective buying club and there fans.
As most on here have said Lafferty is not exactly endearing himself either by his play or his attitude and 4 million for a guy with major question marks against him, do not sound like a sound investment to make IMO.
BTW you can have a great weekend in Glasgow anytime and I am sure most Celtic fans would make you feel most welcome. Just as long as you leave Lafferty at home.

Well we've got a pre-season against Partick, in July so It'll be interesting to see if Mr.Lafferty travels, and it'll give the fans chance to sample your hospitality.
As for me, my daughter lives in Partick so I already know what a champion weekend it'll be.

thanks for posting mate In your opinion does he look like a real talent in the raw or is the jury still out? If its true Strachan has been chasing him like mad he must see something. Any ideas what that might be? What are his qualities? cheers

Keltoi, IMO the juries still out, although there are times he shows real talent. He's a lump of a lad and will fill out, and he has a bit of pace, so I'd say that he'll make a target man. He can show some good touches as well, and if he develops and hits the target with a bit more consistency might become a John Hartson style of player.
His biggest problem (IMO again) is in his head. He's allowed external things to take his concentration, and as I said before he runs off at the gob. I mean who in their right mind wants a move to Celtic then tells the press he's a Rangers lifer!
When he's in that move he gets into stupid situations, and loiters about in off side positions, as a consequence he's off the pace and isn't ready for the instinctive positioning a top class striker needs.
Of course working with better players and playing at a higher level may just be what he needs to remove his head from his arse.
When he's on his game he can finish though. take a butchers

For the price range being bandied about, and the cavalier way Burnley is holding this little auction... I'm very unimpressed.
Near as I can tell, Strachan is chasing a head-case youngster who grew up liking rangers. To add to the fire he claims rangers, he's north ireland, and protestant. This has all sorts of bad wrote on it to me.
And before somebody calls me a racist, I have no problems with them signing kids from ulster and/or being protestant and/or liking rangers as a child ... but god knows their head has got to be on straighter than this. And for 4m??? There'd be heaps of pressure on him. They barely got a decent bid in on the kid before he gave the press ample ammunition. =/
That said, good luck to him. Hope he gets sorted out whether it's at Parkhead or not. Well, unless he signs with the huns =P

Hi Ive Just read on skysports that Celtic are still after Lafferty, what I would like to know is for 4 mill we could be targeting John Arne Riise who is still only 27 and apparently the favourites to sign him are Roma with a 3 mill Bid. Lafferty is pish and Riise has the experience we need for the champs league.

Ignoring transfer fees, Celtic would have a hard time fitting Riise' wages in. But I do really like the player.
