Celtic make 800,000 bet for naismith

Reports are emerging that Celtic have submitted an £800,000 bid to sign Kilmarnock striker Steven Naismith - and trump Rangers in the process.

Rangers have already had a £400,000 bid rejected and, while Arsenal and Aston Villa are thought to be monitoring the situation, it seems Gordon Strachan has decided that the 20-year-old can be exactly what Celtic need - a striker who can actually strike.

While Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink has impressed during his first season at Parkhead, while injury free at least, the other strikers have failed to find the net as many times as fans are used to.

Whether Naismith is the answer to the problem remains to be seen, but if the claims of a £800,000 prove to be true, then at least the club will not have broke the bank to find out.

I think Naismith is better than Killen and he should be a contending starter pushing Jvoh and mcdonald to play well. Also he is one for the future.

p.s. Imagine the look on the huns faces

I think he's a good player with bags of potential. But that's the problem topbhoy, if we sign him and then not play him it will just mark the wasting of yet another Scottish prospect. At least he'd definitely get a game for the Huns.

It would be nice to outprice them on all players they want though.

We could always buy him and send him out on loan straight away until he is at his peak.

i like him hes a good player and hes still young... for a start i think big jan will score 30 goals next year if he stays fit so a player like naysmith to hit 20 will do for me.....
ps i hear a english team have bid 1.5 million so it looks like he will go there unless the huns can match it.. its a shame he didnt play for hibs WGS would have splashed out 3 million for him.lol

The boys only gna increase in value, I think he'd be a great player to blood in alongside Jan.

Although we have enough squad strikers at the moments, If we were to sign on Id like it to be a a defo first teamer - he might struggle to fit in with Mcdonald and Killen there.

But I think its more of a case of not missing out on him than anything else, if no one else was interested im sure GS wouldnt mind waiting another year.

I know he can also play as a midfielder but if we did sign him does it mean we are not going for a CL striker ?

Fuck off with all this talk of buying players who don't add much to the team. We have signed enougy keep on signing players that play for lesser teams than us?? If we are to progress we need to looking bigger and better (£££). Everyones a loser really wheh average players from the SPL to do me for a good few years. There are alot more options out there and I would like to think we are setting our sights a wee bit higher. When we sign 'prospects' from other SPL clubs, the player doesn't get a regular game so his career goes on hold, Scotland lose out on him playing regular football and progressing and it makes the already unbalanced SPL get even more unbalanced as we take their best players from them!
