English TV soaps
Is it just me or does every TV soap has it in for Scottish people. Every time they are on the show, they start off seeming Mr. Nice Guy then turn out to be evil. It's not fair for people like me who are pushed around at school because of this.
Does anyone else feel the same? I know it's always been like this of course, but it's not fair. I'm sure there will be a number of people who are frightened to go near a Scot.
I don't want a big row here, I just want your opinions.

I think it's the Americans you should blame - for Willy in The Simpsons!
Aren't you English anyway?

Awk, I wouldn't read too much into it. Sure the Irish are portrayed as being Priests who are drunk and walk around saying, "Top O' the Mornin to ya".
There are plenty of English baddies in those soaps lol. I don't watch them. I especially hate Emmerdale and Eastenders. Everyone in Eastenders is always fighting, dying, arguing, upset or something gloomy. For goodness sake, the writers could write something funny once in a while!

I don't really watch soaps Darlo, but I struggle to remember a good guy Scotsman in these soaps.
SussexBhoy I am English, just as much Scottish it seems legally. I'm seen as more English as I've lived here all my life, but I visit Scotland when there's the oppurtunity, usually about 6 times a year and my father is Scottish and lives in Scotland along with alot of other family.
Complicated I seem, I know!
The Irish are nearly always good guys on these soaps anyway! Priests or just the ordinary seen as nice people!

I have vague memories from my studies where it was thought that Scottish accents were sound, trustworthy and reliable. Hence a lot of adverts e.g. financial products used Scottish accents and that is also why several major call centres were put there.
I think it's true that the Scottish accent is associated with being hard, and makes for e.g. good detectives and police officers on soaps.
I was lucky enough to live in Scotland for 4 years (and I go back regularly) and my Scottish friends were everything and anything from normal to nutter, included many gorgeous ladies (you can't beat a Scottish accent when it comes to girls), and even a Mo Johnston (i.e. had represented both sides of the holy divide - if you catch my drift). And he was the hardest looking ba5tard of the lot!
